{"id":37683,"date":"2013-04-02T09:28:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-02T07:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/?post_type=novinka&#038;p=37683"},"modified":"2026-07-02T16:54:54","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T14:54:54","slug":"slovak-films-gain-success-in-march","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/slovak-films-gain-success-in-march\/","title":{"rendered":"Slovak films gain success in March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Slovak films received several interesting awards during March: successful were Mira Fornay&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/eshop\/dvd\/moj-pes-killer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>My Dog Killer<\/em><\/a>, Marek Mackovi\u010d&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/okhwans-mission-impossible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em> Okhwan: Mission Impossible<\/em><\/a> and <em>The Exhibition<\/em> by Peter Beg\u00e1nyi and Andrej Kolen\u010d\u00edk.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kinopavasaris.lt\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">18th Kino Pavasaris Vilnius IFF \/ Lithuania<\/a><br \/>\n(March 20 \u2013 April 3, 2013)<br \/>\n<\/strong>The second film by Mira Fornay <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/eshop\/dvd\/moj-pes-killer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>My Dog Killer<\/em><\/strong><\/a> was presented in the Competition Programme New Europe \u2013 New Names\u00a0and received the award for the\u00a0Best Director. The film made a strong impression on the Jury consisting of Ali Suliman (actor, Palestine), Ada Condeescu (actress, Romania), Ye\u015fim Ustaoglu (director \/ scriptwriter, Turkey), Giovanni Ottone (film critic \/ curator, Italy) and Leon Lu\u010dev (actor, Croatia), according to Jury member Ye\u015fim Ustaoglu, the director: &#8220;<em>&#8230; did a really impressive work. It is a very strong, powerful film with rich cinema language and convincing acting.<\/em>&#8221;<br \/>\nThe film received the Hivos Tiger Award\u00a0at the prestigious\u00a0Rotterdam IFF in January, where it was screened in a world premiere. The film entered Slovak cinemas on March 21, it will arrive to Czech cinemas on April 11.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunnysideofthedoc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4th Asian Side of the Doc Kuala Lumpur\/ Malaysia<\/a><br \/>\n(April 19 \u2013 22, 2013)<br \/>\n<\/strong>The documentary by Marek Mackovi\u010d entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/okhwans-mission-impossible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Okhwan: Mission Impossible<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, currently in post-production, was presented at the Asian film market.\u00a0The Jury including Charlotte Gry Madsen (DR TV, Denmark), Ann Julienne (France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions, France), Paul Lewis (Discovery Channel, Canada), Joseph Maxwell (SBS TV, Australia), Choy Lin Mok (Mediacorp Pte Ltd, Singapore), Sakura Ono (NHK, Japan), Prof. Dr. Asiah Sarji (Finas, Malaysia) and Ganesan Sudheer (AETN 18, India) decided the projects was the best video-presented film and decided to award it with the Best Video Pitch.<br \/>\nParts from the documentary were used in the documentary by the Oscar-winning director Kevin MacDonald <strong><em>Life in a Day<\/em><\/strong>, screened at Sundance and Berlinale, among others.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.febiofest.cz\/cs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">20th Febiofest Prague IFF \/ Czech Republic <\/a><\/strong>&#8211; <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.febiofest.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">20th Febiofest Bratislava IFF \/ Slovak Republic<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>(March 14 \u2013 22, 2013)<\/strong> \/ <strong>(March 15 \u2013 21, 2013)<\/strong><br \/>\nDouble success was noted for the directorial duo of Peter Beg\u00e1nyi and Andrej Kolen\u010d\u00edk for their mid-length film <strong><em>The Exhibition<\/em><\/strong> (2013). At both &#8220;branches&#8221; of Febiofest it was included in competition sections (Film Novellas Competition\u00a0and Competition of V4 Short Films) and\u00a0at both it was awarded.\u00a0The Jury of the Prague Febiofest headed by the Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi, in the company of the Swedish director and cinematographer Jan Troell, Romanian director and producer Tudor Giurgiu, Iranian actress and director Niki Karimi and Czech director Sa\u0161a Gedeon decided the film should receive the award\u00a0&#8220;<em>&#8230; for its sense of humor and empathy. The chamber tragicomedy of a provincial Slovak town features one day in the life of five characters working in the Museum of Natural History.
