The Slovak Film and Television Academy<\/a> decided to nominate the film My Dog Killer<\/em> by Mira Fornay as the Slovak entry for the Best Foreign Language Film of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)<\/a> Awards, also known as the Oscars.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n SFTA members selected the film from among 12 eligible titles according to the criteria of the AMPAS:<\/p>\n The Gypsy Vote<\/em><\/strong> (director: Jaro Vojtek) The majority of votes (34 %) went to the successful and awarded My Dog Killer<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the second feature\u00a0by Mira Fornay, which premiered at Rotterdam IFF earlier this year and received the Hivos Tiger Award. Since then it was granted with several other awards and was presented at festivals world-wide, and is in the selection of the European Film Award, as well. The film’s participation was support by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Cannes-premiered winner of the 3rd prize \u2013 The Pandas<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Mat\u00fa\u0161 Viz\u00e1r, also qualified to compete in the Academy’s Best Short Animation category, by receiving the Grand Prix at Melbourne IFF.
