\"\"Normalization<\/em><\/a>, the long-expected documentary feature debut\u00a0by Robert Kirchhoff,\u00a0began its festival career with three awards at significant documentary events.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film received a Special Mention in the Between the Seas section of the\u00a017th\u00a0Jihlava IDFF<\/a>. The jury consisting of\u00a0Dudley Andrew, Lordan Zafranovi\u010d, Gwena\u00ebl Bre\u00ebs and\u00a0\u00d6zge Calafato decided the film is\u00a0“an astounding film that picks up the tradition of compelling investigative journalism that has its origin in Marcel Ophuls\u2019<\/em> Chagrin et la piti\u00e9 and extends it into pressing social issues in the region today<\/em>.”\u00a0They salute director Robert Kirchhoff\u00a0“for the tenacity and ingenuity of his pursuit of justice and of a form of cinema capable of rendering it<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

56th DOK Leipzig<\/a> was another important festival stop for the film which has brought another two awards for Normalization<\/a>. <\/em><\/strong>Honorary Mention of the main Jury \u2013 Lutz Dammbeck, Aliona van der Horst, Amir Labaki, Pavel Strnad and Jane Yu \u2013 appreciated and awarded “the director\u2019s persistence to keep on following a closed criminal case for so many years to show us that despite the political changes in Slovakia the juridical power is still being abused.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

The prize of the Ecomenical Jury for “a remarkable journalistic and artistic work about the unsolved murder case of a young woman and a group of wrongly convicted men. But the film is much more than that. It shows that we cannot escape history, when we build our presence and our future. The film leads us strongly to the biblical question of what is truth? In a personal way it is a matter of conscience, in society a matter of legal responsibility and justice and in a universal way it is a matter of how to be human.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

During DOK Leipzing, the final third\u00a0session of the DOK.Incubator<\/a>\u00a0workshop for documentaries in post-production took place. The Slovak participant Marek Mackovi\u010d with his project Okhwan’s Mission Impossible<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0received the Special Award for “the willingness to move his blocked project to reach an enormously impressing finish<\/em>“,\u00a0and, thus, free video post-production services and DCP in value of 1 500 \u20ac by I\/O post.<\/p>\n
