The 16th edition of the Cinema at the Border<\/a> film showcase takes place in \u010cesk\u00fd T\u011b\u0161\u00edn and Cieszyn at the Czech-Polish border, April 29 \u2013 May 4, 2014. This year the festival\u00a0honours the Slovak film director Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k, who has recently received The Sun in a Net Award for Outstanding Contribution to Slovak Cinema.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Slovak films\u00a0will be presented in three sections of the showcase:<\/p>\n

\"\"The retrospective section dedicated to Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k offers his feature debut <\/span>322<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1969), <\/span>Pictures of the Old World<\/em><\/strong><\/a> which belongs among the most popular archive Slovak films screening abroad, and the titles <\/span>Rosy Dreams<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1976), <\/span>I Love, You Love<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1980), <\/span>Silent Joy<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1985), <\/span>Private Lives<\/em><\/strong> (1990), <\/span>Paper Heads<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1995).\u00a0The section will also screen his most significant short films<\/span>: <\/em><\/strong>Call Into Silence<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1965), <\/span>Learning<\/em><\/strong> (1965), <\/span>Old Shatterhand Came to See Us<\/em><\/strong> (1966), <\/span>The Mass <\/em><\/strong>(1977). In addition, Martin \u0160ul\u00edk\u00b4s <\/span>The Golden Sixties<\/em><\/strong>: Du<\/em><\/strong>\u0161an Han\u00e1k<\/em><\/strong> will show the director\u00b4s profile and works. The retrospective will be supported by the personal presence of the director, who will also present an exhibition of his photographic works.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The section called Great War<\/strong> offers six films which have the common theme of witnessing the absurdity of the war. Slovak archive films related to the topic show are:\u00a0Fortyfour Mutineers <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(1957) by Pa\u013eo Bielik, Deserters and Pilgrims<\/em><\/strong> (1968) by Juraj Jakubisko (one story),\u00a0Wild Lilies<\/em><\/strong> (1972) by Elo Havetta, Signum Laudis<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (1980) by Martin Holl\u00fd and The Angel of Mercy<\/em><\/strong> (1993) by Miloslav Luther.<\/p>\n

\"\"The New Slovak Films<\/strong> section will present eleven feature, documentary and animated movies from the last two years:\u00a0features\u00a0Miracle<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2013) by Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd and\u00a0The Candidate<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2013) by Jon\u00e1\u0161 Kar\u00e1sek, followed by documentaries Normalization<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2013) by Robert Kirchhoff, Velvet Terrorists<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by trio of directors Pavol Pekar\u010d\u00edk, Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd and Peter Kerekes, New Life of Family Album<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(2012) by Adam O\u013eha (2012), Exhibits or Stories from the Castle<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Palo Korec, History Lesson<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk, Footprints on the Ridge<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Pavol Barab\u00e1\u0161. Animation films presented include Pandas<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Mat\u00fa\u0161 Viz\u00e1r, Snow<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Ivana \u0160ebestov\u00e1 and Fongopolis<\/em><\/strong> (2013) by Joanna Ko\u017cuch.<\/p>\n

The Slovak participation and sections at the showcase are organized in\u00a0co-operation\u00a0with the Slovak Film Institute.<\/p>\n
