For the second time, the competition sections of Finale Plzen<\/a> (Pilsen, Czech Republic) were opened for Slovak films to participate in the Festival\u00b4s four official competitions and scored two of the main Golden Kingfisher awards: for the Best Documentary and the Best TV Serial Production.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the\u00a0programme of the\u00a028th festival edition, seventeen documentaries were included in the New Czech and Slovak Documentary Films in Competition, with five entries from Slovakia: Comebac<\/em>k, Felvid\u00e9k: Caught in Between<\/em>, The Edge \u2013 4 Films About Marek Brezovsk\u00fd<\/em>, wave vs. shore<\/em><\/strong> and Gottland <\/em><\/strong>(a minority Slovak coproduction). The films were cosidered by a three-member jury consisting of Robert Kirchhoff (SK), H\u00e9l\u00e9ne Fantl (FR) and \u00c1gnes S\u00f3s (HU).<\/p>\n

The Golden Kingfisher Award for the Best Documentary was awarded to wave vs. shore<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a directing debut by the renowned Slovak DoP Martin \u0160trba. The documentary about an extraordinary generation of Slovak photographers who met at Prague’s FAMU in 1980s and became the Slovak New Wave was praised by the jury as a \u201cpersonal and yet generational statement about passion, arts and life.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Further Slovak documentary, Comeback<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Miro Remo,\u00a0also a debut feature-length film, received Special Mention of the Jury for its “unique and comprehensive time-lapse observation of a closed-in world as a circle of crime and punishment\u201c.<\/p>\n

18 television films and programmes competed in two separate sections, divided to serial and non-serial production. Slovak television works were presented by 4 titles and series: My Uprising<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in the non-serial section and selected episodes of Animatherapy<\/em><\/strong>, Horn\u00e1 Doln\u00e1<\/em><\/strong> and Secret Lives. <\/em><\/strong>The international jury for TV competition consisted of Libu\u0161e \u0160muclerov\u00e1 (General Director of the biggest publishing house in the Czech Republic), Dimitris Emmanouilidis (scritpwriter, actor, Greece) and Brendan N. Ward (scriptwriter, producer and lecturer, USA).<\/p>\n

The Golden Kingfisher for the Best TV Serial Production went to the Slovak TV series Secret Lives<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0directed by J\u00e1n Sebechlebsk\u00fd. The jury praised\u00a0the series for picturing in \u201ca sober way, without unnecessary sentimentality, the lives of women who live on the edge of the society and strive to fight for a stronger position\u201d.<\/p>\n

The competition programme was also judged by the Student Jury, which in the category of TV formats – non-serial production decided to award the Slovak programme My Uprising<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0directed by Jon\u00e1\u0161 Kar\u00e1sek and Marika Be\u0148adik Majorov\u00e1 for its \u201cextraordinary set design and the way in which the format managed to come close to young audiences\u201d.<\/p>\n

Secret Lives produced by the Slovak public broadcaster Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS).<\/a>\u00a0My Uprising <\/strong><\/em>produced by RTVS, MW Promotion and SebikTV.<\/p>\n

The annual awards of the Association of Czech Film Clubs<\/a> were also announced at the Closing Ceremony of the Festival. The award for the best feature film on 2014 went to Fair Play<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Andrea Sedl\u00e1\u010dkov\u00e1).<\/p>\n
