\"\"The Slovak nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film Award\u00a0of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences<\/a> (AMPAS), also known as the Oscar, is Koza<\/em> by Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The submission for the Oscars Foreign Language Category is based on the voting of the members of the Slovak Film and Television Academy. SFTA <\/a>members have chosen\u00a0Ostrochovsk\u00fd\u00b4s film from the following films which fulfilled the AMPAS conditions:<\/p>\n

Love in Your Soul<\/em> <\/strong><\/a>(dir. Mariana \u010cengel Sol\u010dansk\u00e1)
\nComeback<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Miro Remo)
\nHostage<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Juraj Nvota)
\nSo Far, So Near<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Jaro Vojtek)
\nSeven Ravens<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Alice Nellis)
\nKoza<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd)
\nThrough the Eyes of the Photographer<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Matej Min\u00e1\u010d)<\/p>\n

In addition, Koza<\/em><\/strong><\/a> was also selected for EFA Selection 2015 for this year\u00b4s EFA Awards.<\/a><\/p>\n

Nominations for the Oscars will be announced in January 14, 2016, the ceremony will be held on February 28, 2016 in LA.<\/p>\n

Peter “Koza” Bal\u00e1\u017e is a former Olympic boxer. His partner Mi\u0161a learns that she is expecting a child and decides to terminate her pregnancy. She reassures Koza to get money for the procedure. Koza, who has not trained in a while, steps back into the ring, hoping to earn some much-needed cash and possibly change Mi\u0161a’s mind. He and his manager, Zvonko, embark on a “tour”, where success is not measured in victories, but in the amount of blows that Koza can take.<\/p>\n

Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd (1972)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having his short film Ilja<\/em><\/strong> (2010), shot in black and white, presented at Karlovy Vary IFF in 2010, Ivan has since marked a successful route as a director. After several documentary shorts and series, he continued with his debut feature documentary Velvet Terrorists<\/em> <\/strong>(2013), co-directed by Pavol Pekar\u010d\u00edk and Peter Kerekes and premiered at Berlinale in 2014, winning the Tagesspiegel Readers\u00b4 Award. The film also won the FEDEORA Award at Karlovy Vary IFF, the Special Mention at the Planete+ Doc, FIPRESCI Award at Novi Sad IFF and the Special Mention of the Jury at the Hamptons IFF. Ivan’s debut feature, Koza<\/em><\/strong> (2015), celebrated its World Premiere at Berlinale in 2015, and continues in its successful festival journey Vilnius FF (Best Film, Art Cinema Award), Hong Kong IFF, goEast FF (Best Director, FIPRESCI Award), Neisse FF (Best Film), Tarkovsky IFF Zerkalo, Transilvania IFF, Brussels FF, Olhad de Cinema, Edinburgh IFF, La Rochelle FF, with further significant festivals to attend in the following months.<\/p>\n
