The festival will be held on Nov 12 \u2013 17\u00a0in three municipal and club cinema theatres: Lumi\u00e9re Cinema, Mlados\u0165 Cinema and Nostalgia Cinema. A\u00a0rich programme presenting the best of European cinema will\u00a0introduce more than twenty Slovak titles or films by Slovak filmmakers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within the Fiction Competition the Slovak premiere is waiting for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/family-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Family Film<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Slovenian director Olmo Omerzu. The drama about complicated family relationships premiered at San Sebastian IFF has recently obtained the Award for Best Artistic Contribution at Tokyo IFF. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/family-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Family Film<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is also included into the non-competitive section Theme: Family.<br \/>\nSlovak premiere is\u00a0also prepared for the Serbian short <strong><em>Play! <\/em><\/strong>directed by Slovak filmmaker Andrej Kolen\u010d\u00edk. The short documentary is observing Du\u0161an, an eight-year-old boy trapped in limbo between two polar opposite worlds: spends his time amongst gambling adults in a casino while his imagination is captivated by children\u2019s television series. The film is competing in the Shorts Competition and also will be screened within the Europa, the section presenting the best of contemporary European cinema.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nFurther Slovak films have their platform within the traditional sidebar Made in Slovakia, which showcases the latest Slovak film production, including short and student films:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-cleaner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>The Cleaner<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Peter Bebjak) \u2013 film about problems in interpersonal communication, about how strongly events from our childhood can influence us and how hard it is for us to cope with them. The film had its world premiere at \u00a0Warsaw IFF.<br \/>\n<strong><em>Home Care<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Sl\u00e1vek Hor\u00e1k) \u2013 at times darkly funny, and at times bittersweet Hor\u00e1k\u00b4s feature debut examines the finality of human existence through a tender portrayal of a dedicated home care nurse, who puts everyone\u2019s needs above her own.<br \/>\n<strong><em>True \u0160t\u00far<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Michal Bal\u00e1\u017e) \u2013 an attractive docudrama trying to trace the mysterious circumstances of the death of \u013dudov\u00ed \u0160t\u00far, the leader of the Slovak national revival in the 19th century.<br \/>\nThe FU AKU\u00b4s collection of students films:\u00a0 <em><strong>AFK: Away From Keyboard<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Patrik Kov\u00e1\u010d), <em><strong>Jozef Kuchar <\/strong><\/em>(dir. R\u00f3bert Bo\u0161e\u013ea), <em><strong>Contact <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Marek Pup\u00e1k), <em><strong>Lilies for Daniela <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Barbora Vaculov\u00e1) a <em><strong>To Seen the Unseen <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Michal Ko\u010di\u0161).<br \/>\nThe FTF V\u0160MU\u00b4s selection of students films: <em><strong>Mothers and Daughters <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Ivana Huc\u00edkov\u00e1\u0148), <em><strong>Mor Ho! <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Martin Mich\u00e1lik), <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/cowboyland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Cowboyland <\/strong><\/em><\/a>(dir. D\u00e1vid \u0160tmupf), <em><strong>First Surgery <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Daniel Rih\u00e1k) and <strong><em>Fear <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Michal Bla\u0161ko).<\/p>\n<p>The Festival also appreciates the lifetime artistic achievement of the Dame of Slovak theatre and cinema, actress Em\u00edlia V\u00e1\u0161\u00e1ryov\u00e1. This year\u2019s award laureate and holder of the memorial tile on the Film Walk of Fame will be officially announced during the gala evening of the 17th Bratislava IFF. As part of the evening, the Festival will proudly\u00a0screen <strong><em>The Copper Tower<\/em><\/strong> (1970), a legendary film by director Martin Holl\u00fd.<\/p>\n<p>A newly introduced section Lexicon: Aspect Ratio will from now on focus on particular technical and aesthetic phenomena or means of expression. This year\u00a0volume is dedicated to the issue of the film picture\u2019s format, demonstrating the possibilities of particular formats as well as invention of filmmakers who have fulfilled them or even ventured beyond them. Several Slovak shorts are included in the section.<\/p>\n<p>The main topic of the festival is family and this theme is connected with the films by Slovak-American documentarist Michal Such\u00fd. The Retrospective: Michal Such\u00fd comprising of two blocks of short and medium-length films will examine the two principal subject-matters of Such\u00fd\u2019s filmmaking: that of family and that of ethnography.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Slovak members of the Festival Juries<br \/>\nJudit B\u00e1rdos \u2013 currently a freelance actress who gives guest performances in three theatres. For rendering the main character Eva in her feature debut, <em><strong>The House<\/strong><\/em> (2011), she won the Blue Angel award at the Art Film Fest IFF as well as prestigious Igric and The Sun in a Net awards. She was nominated for the Czech Lion award for her role of Anna in <em><strong>Fair Play<\/strong><\/em> (2014) and clinched the Best Female Performance award at the Social World Film Festival in Vico Equense for the role of Jewish pianist Edith Kraus in <em><strong>In Silence<\/strong><\/em> (2014).<br \/>\nEva Kri\u017ekov\u00e1 \u2013 as a co-founder, PR and project manager of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmtopia.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Filmtopia<\/a> distribution company, she is also practically involved in distributing films for so-called discriminating viewers. She is a co-founder and editor-in-chief of cinema bi-monthly <a href=\"http:\/\/kinecko.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kine\u010dko<\/a>, which provides a platform for an open and erudite debate of Slovakia\u2019s cinema community.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>R\u00f3bert Pospi\u0161 \u2013 currently works as part-time editor with <a href=\"http:\/\/devin.rtvs.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radio Dev\u00edn<\/a> as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inba.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In.Ba<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmsk.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Film.sk<\/a> monthlies. He has collaborated with a number of cultural magazines in Slovakia. He is an active musician, lyricist, music producer and the founder of the Real Music House publishing house.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Student Jury composes of Gabriela Ga\u017eov\u00e1 (V\u0160MU), Verona Dubi\u0161ov\u00e1 (V\u0160MU, V\u0160VU)and Denis Kozerawski (V\u0160VU).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Bratislava International Film Festival opens its 17th edition.
