After 23 years Art Film Fest Ko\u0161ice<\/a> faces a new challenge: relocation from spa town Tren\u010dianske Teplice to the east of Slovakia. The festival in Ko\u0161ice kicks off on June 17 and lasts untill June 25. The visitors should be prepared for new sections, locations\u00a0and 131 film titles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Apart from\u00a0traditional sections such as All Around the World, European Corner, Love&Anarchy or Eastern Promises, the new era of the festival brings about some interesting innovations \u2013 Be2Can Starter screens selection of awarded films from Cannes, Venice and Berlinale and Variety select: Art Films\u00a0features\u00a0Variety critic\u00b4s selection of films on art and artists.<\/p>\n

The International Competition of Feature Films includes the coproduction\u00a0title I, Olga Hepnarova<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Petr Kazda, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Weinreb), a suggestive true story of the last woman to be executed in Czechoslovakia that has captured the audience’s attention already during its world-premiere at Berlinale 2016. At Art Film Fest Ko\u010dice the film is competing among 11 further titles from around the world.<\/p>\n

The traditional section Slovak Season dedicated to last year\u00b4s\u00a0domestic production\u00a0includes: mid-length debut of the established cinematographer and photographer Martin Kollar 5 October<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, directorial debut of\u00a0recognized scriptwriter Ondrej \u0160ulaj Agave<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, co-production youth film about parkourists In Your Dreams!<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Petr Oukropec), successful urban drama The Cleaner<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Peter Bebjak), Eva Nov\u00e1 <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(dir. Marko \u0160kop) brilliantly starring the Dame of Slovak theatre and cinema \u2013 actress Em\u00edlia V\u00e1\u0161\u00e1ryov\u00e1, festival-acclaimed Koza<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd), documentary jam session Steam on the River <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(dir. Robert Kirchhoff), one episode of the popular TV series Female First: Zora Jesensk\u00e1<\/strong> (dir. R\u00f3bert \u0160veda) and roadmovie STANKO<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>(dir. Ras\u0165o Boro\u0161).<\/p>\n

Within this section, a special screening of one classical piece of Slovak contemporary cinema will be held: Everything I Like<\/em><\/strong> by acclaimed director Martin \u0160ul\u00edk. Produced in 1992, the film\u00a0returns to Slovak cinemas after 25 years in a remastered version thanks to Slovak Film Institute and the national project of digitalization and digital restoration.
\nEverything I Like<\/em><\/strong> is the first Slovak film to capture the transition period after the fall of the Iron Curtain and was premiered shortly after the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic. The director said: \u201cEverything I Like<\/strong> may well be my most personal film. It\u2019s personal because my father, Anton \u0160ul\u00edk, plays in it, but also because many of the situations that ended up in the film are based upon reality.\u201d<\/em> The film tells the story of Tom\u00e1\u0161, unemployed standstill, who has to take care of his teenage son and helps his aging parents. It seems the only way to escape this vicious circle is to run away to England with a young Englishwoman.<\/p>\n

This year’s Actor\u2019s Mission Award recipients are Czech actor Karel Roden and Serbian actor Lazar Ristovski. The Golden Camera goes to British director and screenwriter Stephen Daldry and British director Sir Alan Parker.<\/p>\n
