On Wednesday, June 29 International Animation Festival\u00a0Fest An\u010da<\/a> opens its gates in \u017dilina, and will keep them openmed until Sunday, July 3, 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Its 9th edition the festival introduces the selection of the best animation films from all around the world, this year with special focus on the animation of the Balkans, and embraces the surreal world of Quay brothers, as well as Montreal director Steve Woloshen who creates his films and time-lapse installations through scratches, grooves, colour splashing, and etching directly onto film stock.<\/p>\n

Besides four competition section, side-bar section,\u00a0special programme for children, Festival continues with the Industry platform for professional animation filmmakers, which was successfully launched two years ago, and this year offers Pithich Forum, discussions and presentations.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0International Co<\/u>mpetition\u00a0will see\u00a0Mila Fog<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Marta Prokopov\u00e1) vie for the An\u010da Award; Prokopov\u00e1\u00b4s short about search of light in the state of darkness and mists will try its luck also in the\u00a0Competition of Slovak Films. Yet, An\u010da Slovak Award might as well end up in the hands of\u00a0 Star Taxi<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Juraj Krampolec),\u00a0Monikinokino – Holiday<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>(dir. Veronika Obertov\u00e1), Rules of the Game<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Ondrej Rudavsk\u00fd),\u00a0Occupation<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martina Miku\u0161ov\u00e1), Balloon Girl<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martina Fraj\u0161t\u00e1kov\u00e1),\u00a0Brother Deer<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Zuzana \u017diakov\u00e1), Spirit of the City<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Andrej Kolen\u010d\u00edk & Veronika Kocourkov\u00e1). The lattest mentioned will also compete in the\u00a0International\u00a0Competition of Music Videos, while\u00a0Star Taxi<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0might as well leave the Festival with An\u010da Kids\u00b4s Award awarded by a very special children jury at the\u00a0International Competition of Films for Kids.<\/p>\n

Responsability for the decision of the\u00a0An\u010da Award\u00a0holder lies on the shoulders of the interantional jury composed of: producer and founder of HITCHHIKER Cinema Barbara Jani\u0161ov\u00e1 Feglov\u00e1 (SK), curator of Animation Avantgarde programs at the Vienna Independent Shorts Film Festival and director of the One Day Animation Festival in Vienna Thomas Renolder (AT), and animation journalist, professional and scholar, head editor of Zippy Frames Vassilis Kroustallis (GRC).<\/p>\n

The Slovak films are going to compete for An\u010da Slovak Award, and one of the films will recieve it from the hands of producer and general manager at Bonobostudio focused on the production, distribution and promotion of animated and experimental films Vanja Andrijevi\u0107 (HRV), screenwriter of Mimi and L\u00edza and pedagogue of screenwriting and dramaturgy at FTF V\u0160MU in Bratislava Katar\u00edna Mol\u00e1kov\u00e1 (SK), and co-founder of KUKI & Teen Screen, the International Short Film Festival for Children & Youth Alexandre Stein (DE).<\/p>\n

Music Video Competition Jury, awarding\u00a0An\u010da Misic Video Award, consists of director of the StopTrik International Film Festival (Bielsko-Bia\u0142a, Poland; Maribor, Slovenia), a festival dedicated to stop motion animation, the curator of animation programmes presented at festivals in Poland, Slovenia and Croatia, specialized in classic Chinese animated film Olga Bobrowska (PL), teacher, festival juror, film conservationist, animator, craftsman and recently, the author ofRecipes for Reconstruction (2010) Steve Woloshen (CAN), and short animation film-maker, creator of installations and multimedia projects on the alternative scene in Prague, Brno, Bratislava, and Berlin Martin Bu\u0159il (CZ).<\/p>\n

Slovak shorts also compete for An\u010da D Award \u2013\u00a0the distribution\u00a0trophy awarded in collaboration with Film Europe Media Company<\/a>. The An\u010da D Award winner\u00a0will be\u00a0screened in Slovak cinemas before a feature film distributed by Film Europe and will be broadcasting at Film Europe Channel. The director of the last year\u00b4s\u00a0 An\u010da D Award winner\u00a0is\u00a0Cowboyland<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, directed by D\u00e1vid \u0160tumpf.<\/p>\n

The Pitching Forum of Fest An\u010da offers to the Czech and Slovak film-makers not only space to introduce their projects in front of the expert jury, that this year includes Patrik Pa\u0161\u0161, Jr., but also an opportunity to receive advice and feedback from Slovak professionals.<\/p>\n

One of the components of this year programme are\u00a0Game Days<\/a> presenting various aspects od videogame creation with speakers from Croatia, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Slovakia; Robert Schochmann of Anima Technika (SK) will present the world\u00b4s first and only multi-genra indoor game Drone n Base, and Martin Ja\u0161\u0161o of Pixel Federation (SK) will speak on the main enterpreneurship and desing motivations that lead the company to the take on virtual reality. This ear Round Table debates welcome Jozef Koval\u010d\u00edk (Fond na podporu umenia), Michal Ferko (Fakulta matematiky, fyziky a informatiky UK), Zora Jaurov\u00e1 (Creative Industry Forum), M\u00e1ria Ri\u0161kov\u00e1 (Slovak Design Center), Filip Fischer (Game Dev Hub).<\/p>\n
