The Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia\u00a0is held for the fourth time in four Australian cities. The festival starts on Sept 14 in Melbourne and then continues to Perth, Sydney and for the first time also to Canberra.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim of this year\u00b4s edition is to introduce the most significant film adaptations of Slovak and Czech literature. On this occasion\u00a0two Slovak archive films will be screened: Dragon’s Return<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Eduard Gre\u010dner and a fairy tale Lady Winter<\/em><\/strong> by Juraj Jakubisko. Another archive film The Man Who Lies<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Alain Robbe-Grillet will be also screened.<\/p>\n

The contemporary Slovak cinematography will be represented by films: Eva Nov\u00e1<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Marko \u0160kop), The Cleaner <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(dir. Peter Bebjak), Vojtech <\/em><\/a><\/strong>(dir. Viktor Csudai), Stanko <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(dir. Ras\u0165o Boro\u0161), Seven Ravens<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Alice Nellis) , In Your Dreams!<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Petr Oukropec), Family Film<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Olmo Omerzu), Tiger’s Theory<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Radek Bajgar) and documentaries The Edge \u2013 4 Films about Marek Brezovsk\u00fd <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Patrik Lan\u010dari\u010d) and Through the Eyes of the Photographer <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Matej Min\u00e1\u010d).<\/p>\n

A selection of student films from Academy of Performing Arts will be presented as well: Brother Deer<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Zuzana \u017diakov\u00e1), Star Taxi <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(dir. Juraj Krumpolec), Chronos <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Martin Kazim\u00edr), In Line<\/em><\/strong> (d. Kamila Ku\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1), Mila Fog<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Marta Prokopov\u00e1), Rosso Papavero<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Martin Smatana), The Ballad of Simon and Teresa<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martin Hn\u00e1t) and Cowboyland<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. D\u00e1vid \u0160tumpf).<\/p>\n

The very first edition of the festival took place in Melbourne and in the following years the festival has spread to Sydney (2014), Perth (2015) and Canberra (2016). Another newie is a set up of jury composed of Glenn Dunks, Tom Clift and Hayley Inch from Australian Film Critics Association<\/a> (a new partner of the festival), which will pick the best feature film screened in Melbourne and Canberra. The films screened in Sydney will vie for the Audience award.<\/p>\n

Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia is organized by Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia Inc.<\/a> (CaSFFA) and Iksima<\/a>, in cooperation with production company ARINA<\/a>, the Slovak Film Institute, and with financial support of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund<\/a>. Partners of the event are Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic<\/a>, Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Canberra<\/a>, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic<\/a>, Slovak Tourist Board<\/a> and Academy of Performing Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n
