The 24th International Film Clubs Festival Febiofest<\/a> (March 2 \u2013 8, 2017) kicks off with strong presence of Slovak films.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The competition section of the 24th edition of IFCF Febiofest In the Middle of Europe introduces a fascinating selection of fiction, documentary, animated and experimental films from the V4 countries (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland) along with our close neighbor, Austria. The pick includes these Slovak shorts: Chilli<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martina Miku\u0161ov\u00e1, 2016, SK), The Test<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Gregor Valentovi\u010d), Triptych<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Mat\u00fa\u0161 Ry\u0161an, Michal \u010euri\u0161, Ondrej Hra\u0161ka), About My Sister<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Barbora Sliepkov\u00e1).<\/p>\n

A recent film and TV production is showcased in the Slovak Film Landscape. The section honoures two Slovak filmmakers: animator Viktor Kubal and screenwriter Albert Maren\u010din. Eleven films are screened within the slice: Ice Mother<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>(dir. Bohdan Sl\u00e1ma), The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Jan N\u011bmec), Brigand Jurko<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (dir. Viktor Kubal), Budujeme Slovensko: Cukrovar v \u0160uranoch<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(dir. Peter Kerekes), Fighting Corruption<\/em><\/strong> (dir. R\u00f3bert \u0160veda), Little Harbour<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1), Sunrise<\/strong><\/em> Hotel<\/em> <\/strong><\/a>(dir. M\u00e1ria Rumanov\u00e1), A Song About the Gray Pigeon<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Stanislav Barab\u00e1\u0161,), Spoor<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Agnieszka Holland), A Hole in the Head<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Robert Kirchhoff), and Czech Allah<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Zuzana Piussi).<\/p>\n

Personalities of Club Film introduces three renowned filmmakers: Agnieszka Holland, Lubor Dohnal and Miroslav Janek. Within the section Glass Paintings<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Lubor Dohnal) and J\u00e1no\u0161\u00edk. The True Story<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Agnieszka Holland, Kasia Adamik) will be shown.<\/p>\n

The Mirror of the Past takes in another Slovak joyful film Sweet Amusment of Past Summer<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Juraj Herz). The section includes educational editorial project Images of\/against Extremism, founded by the educators from the Department of Audiovisual Studies at the Faculty of Film and Television, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava<\/a>. Through eight key themes (racial and ethnical hatred, religious intolerance, nationalism, political power, holocaust, media manipulation, life in exile, fear of sexuality and otherness), they decided to confront both past and present forms of extremism. The whole project and the selected collection of films will be presented by the film historian and teacher Eva Filov\u00e1.<\/p>\n

Club Jukebox section, compiled according to the results of the audience votes, screens Slovak title This Is Not Me<\/i><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(dir. Miro Remo), as one of the five films.<\/p>\n

Film Cabinet to Children prepares the screening of popular TV series The Tots<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Vanda Ra\u00fdmanov\u00e1, Michal Struss).<\/p>\n

Febifest also continues with the project EXPERIMENTAL, a project aiming to address experimental film lovers as well as audiences, which haven\u2019t yet had a chance to find their way towards this essential subcategory of cinema. This year\u2019s section will, apart from other things, introduce the very first volume of\u00a0Other Visions Slovakia, a national competition of motion pictures. Apart from competent introductions before each screening and live discussions afterwards, they will be accompanied by texts on the website Kine\u010dko \u2013 online world of film.<\/p>\n
