{"id":38010,"date":"2017-06-12T14:22:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T12:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/?post_type=novinka&#038;p=38010"},"modified":"2025-08-14T17:00:53","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T15:00:53","slug":"three-slovak-films-in-competitions-of-25th-art-film-fest-kosice","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/three-slovak-films-in-competitions-of-25th-art-film-fest-kosice\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Slovak Films in Competitions of 25th ART FILM FEST Ko\u0161ice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><strong>The 25th<sup>\u00a0<\/sup><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artfilmfest.sk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ART FILM FEST Ko\u0161ice<\/a> (June 16 \u2013 24, 2017) will see three Slovak films compete.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The International Competition of Fiction Feature Films selection includes two Slovak majority co-productions screened in their Slovak premieres. The graduation film of Tereza Nvotov\u00e1 <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/filthy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Filthy<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, world premiered at 46th International Film Festival Rotterdam, will thus vie for the Festival main award, Blue Angel, with only recently, at 70th Festival de Cannes, Un Certain Regard, world premiered <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>OUT<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Gy\u00f6rgi Krist\u00f3f.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The third film in question is none other than Michal Bla\u0161ko directed short <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/atlantis-2003\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Atlantis, 2003<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, also world premiered at 70th Festival de Cannes within Cin\u00e9fondation short film competition, now being one of the contestants in International Competition of Shorts. Yet, not only the list doesn&#8217;t end here, it doesn&#8217;t end with traditional Slovak Season either.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The two international juries comprise of actress Alexandra Borb\u00e9ly, film director Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd, actress Samar Qupty from the last year Blue Angle Laureate Junction 48, film director and producer Tom\u00e1\u0161 Weinreb (<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/i-olga-hepnarova\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>I, Olga Hepnarov\u00e1<\/em><\/strong><\/a>) and Jean-Marc Th\u00e9rouanne, historian and festival curator (all International Jury), and film and art curator Daniel Ebner, film producer Marija Razgut\u00e9 and festival programmer Stine Wangler (Shorts Competition Jury).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The highest concentration of the Slovak films can be found within Slovak Season, this year presenting 8 feature-length, 3 mid-length and 1 short films. The fiction features are represented by <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/a-prominent-patient\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>A Prominent Patient<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Julius \u0160ev\u010d\u00edk), <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/ice-mother\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Ice Mother<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Bohdan SL\u00e1ma), <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/kidnapping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Kidnapping<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Mariana \u010cengel Sol\u010dansk\u00e1), <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/little-harbour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Little Harbour<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1) and <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/spoor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Spoor<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Agnieszka Holland). The section includes six documentaries, feature-length <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/a-hole-in-the-head\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>A Hole in the Head<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Robert Kirchhoff), <strong><em>Martin \u0164ap\u00e1k<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Marek \u0164ap\u00e1k) and <strong><em>Ten Years of Love<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Adam Hanuljak), and three mid-length ones: <strong><em>Addicted to Altitude, Part One: Ivan G\u00e1lfy<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Addicted to Altitude, Part Two: Cruel Everest<\/em><\/strong> (both dir. Pavol Barab\u00e1\u0161) and <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/sunrise-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Sunrise Hotel<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. M\u00e1ria Rumanov\u00e1). The only short film in selection is an animated diary <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/39-weeks-9-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>39 Weeks, 6 Days<\/em><\/strong><\/a> of &amp; by Joanna Kozuch, Boris \u0160ima.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">This edition of ART FILM FEST Ko\u0161ice dedicated the section and a Special Award Actor&#8217;s Mission to Czech actor Ond\u0159ej Vetch\u00fd and Slovak actress Magdal\u00e9na V\u00e1\u0161\u00e1ryov\u00e1. Altogether five Slovak films screen to remind of both actors&#8217; talents: <strong><em>A Gentle Creature<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Stanislav Barab\u00e1\u0161), <strong><em>Cruel Love<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martin \u0164ap\u00e1k), <strong><em>Simple Pleasures<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k) and <strong><em>Hostage<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Juraj Nvota).<\/p>\n<p>Two film directors, Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk and Jan H\u0159ebejk, will receive Golden Camera<em>, <\/em>and given this occasion, <strong><em>History Lesson<\/em><\/strong><em> and <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/eshop\/uncategorized\/svetle-miesto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>The Bright Spot<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk) and <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/garden-store-the-family-friend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>The Family Friend<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em> and <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-teacher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>The Teacher<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Jan H\u0159ebejk) will be screened.<\/p>\n<p>Festival President&#8217;s Award\u00a0will be this year handed to Czech actor and President of Karlovy Vary IFF Ji\u0159\u00ed Barto\u0161ka with <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-tiger-theory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>The Tiger Theory<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Radek Bajgar) to remind of his talent.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">A carte blanche section built up by Slovak documentary film maker Peter Kerekes called simply Peter Kerekes Special includes his documentary about Ko\u0161ice&#8217;s Old Swimming Pool <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/eshop\/uncategorized\/66-seasons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>66 Seasons<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">If you like to watch your films under the starry sky, we have good news. Amphiteater will show seven films, and among them <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/all-or-nothing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>All or Nothing<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Marta Ferencov\u00e1), <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/cuky-luky-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Cuky Luky Film<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Karel Jan\u00e1k), and <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/imt-smile-and-lucnica-made-in-slovakia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>IMT Smile and Lucnica: Made in Slovakia<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Palo Jan\u00edk).<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Slovak films are included also in the panel discussions and talks, especially with Images of\/against Extremism: Media Manipulation and Images of\/against Extremism: Nationalism in Ourselves.
