Sidebar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tiff.net\/tiff\/films.html?series=Contemporary-World-Cinema\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contemporary World Cinema<\/a> features <em>Nina<\/em> by Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tiff.net\/tiff\/films.html?series=Short-Cuts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Short Cuts<\/a> premieres a short student film <em>Magic Moments<\/em> by Martina Buchelov\u00e1.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A coming-of-age story <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/nina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Nina<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd) had its world premiere at Karlove Vary IFF where it vied in East of the West Competition. <strong><em>Nina<\/em><\/strong> is a twelve-year-old girl and her parents are getting a divorce. Her world is falling apart before her eyes and she feels abandoned and deceived. Her only security in life is competitive swimming.<\/p>\n<p>Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd will introduce the film personally on Sept 10, 2017 in the North-American premiere. Also Lehotsk\u00fd\u00b4s previous film, his debut feature <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/eshop\/nezaradene\/zazrak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Miracle<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (2013) was screened at Toronto IFF 2013 within the section Discovery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/AIC-2017\/magic-moments.png\" alt=\"\" align=\"left\" class=\"table\" \/>A short film <strong><em>Magic Moments<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martina Buchelov\u00e1) is presented at Toronto IFF in the world-premiere. The programmer of the section Jason Anderson writes about the film: <em>\u201eLargely left on their own due to their parents\u2019 jobs in other cities, a sensitive teenager and her kid sister must rely on themselves if they hope to glean anything from the life lessons they encounter, in this warm, wise and often surprising drama.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Martina Buchelov\u00e1&#8217;s previous works has been screened at many international festivals and in 2015 she was selected for Future Frames 2015: Ten New Filmmakers to Follow, a programme organized by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efp-online.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Film Promotion<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kviff.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Karlovy Vary IFF<\/a>. The main theme of her work is hope. Martina tries to portray ordinary people, trapped in everyday problems of our society.
