The festival will traditionally enrich the long weekend with live-action films, documentaries, animations, master classes, concerts and visual art. The topic of this edition <em>The Beginning<\/em> will bring the Slovak shorts into the programme, as most filmmakers start their careers with making the short films.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>4 elements will introduce short films of three Slovak pioneers of The New Wave who will celebrate their 80th anniversary this year (Elo Havetta died in 1975). The audience will have a opportunity to see <strong><em>Silence<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Juraj Jakubisko), <strong><em>6 Questions for Jan Werich<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k) and <strong><em>St. Jane<\/em><\/strong> by Elo Havetta on the big screen.<\/p>\n<p>The festival will also introduce a selection of archive shorts \u2013 <em>New Slovakia, New Man, New Life<\/em>, selected by film theorist Eva Filov\u00e1. <strong><em>The Valley of Happiness<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Vladim\u00edr Bahna) presents a reportage about building a railroad between Hronsk\u00e1 D\u00fabrava and Bansk\u00e1 \u0160tiavnica, <strong><em>Victory in the Wasteland<\/em><\/strong> (dir. J\u00e1n Beer) informs the audience about the pioneers of growing rice in Slovakia and <strong><em>Stars in Shafts<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Du\u0161an Kodaj) takes a closer look at the miners working in Bansk\u00e1 \u0160tiavnica. Beside the three reportages, the selection will consist of two short documentaries \u2013 <strong><em>The New Village<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Pavel Mi\u0161kuv) explains how to build new villages and cities, while <strong><em>Tencer Slabey Ma\u0165a\u0161 <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Milan \u010cern\u00e1k) confronts the working heroes of the first five-year plan with their present social status and opinions.<\/p>\n<p>The second edition of the competition section Different visions will present 8 films. The winner will be selected by the Jury composed of Zuzana Bodn\u00e1rov\u00e1, Ivana Lau\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 and Ji\u0159\u00ed Ned\u011bla.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, the festival will pre-release Slovak-German co-production film <strong><em>Freedom<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Jan Speckenbach), which was world premiered at 70th Locarno IFF and will be released to distribution in March 2018.
