After a two succesful years, the upcoming 25th IFCF Febiofest Bratislava<\/a>\u00a0will once again host a third edition of Industry Days<\/a> (March 20 \u2013 21, 2018). The platform is intended predominantly for producers, film professionals and university students, but also for the wider public with an interest in specific topics related to film production.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The backbone of Industry Days is the presentation of upcoming Slovak film projects Works In Progress, which is annually accompanied by panel discussions and master classes on selected topics. This year\u2019s Industry Days programme is focused mainly on the creation, production and distribution of short films, as well as challenges of contemporary and future trends in the Film Industry.<\/p>\n

\nPANEL DISCUSSION: THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING SHORT: WHY DO WE NEED SHORT FILMS?<\/u><\/p>\n

What is the current status of short-length cinema here and abroad? What does its support system and professional background look like in Slovakia, and why are the majority of short films created by students in universities? Representatives of short film festivals, sales agents and short film makers will discuss the challenges short film is facing in the national and international context. The panel discussion will be followed by a master class of successful short filmmaker, all just to emphasize the idea that short films are just as important as feature-length ones.<\/p>\n

The discussion panel will be hosted by Alexandra Gabri\u017eov\u00e1, coordinator of festival department (Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Faculty of Film and Television). The panelists are Massimo Nardulli (Winterthur Interna-tional Short Film Festival, Torino Short Film Market), Enrico Vanucci (Venice Film Festival – Orizzonti Corti, TorinoShort Film Market), Vratislav \u0160lajer (short film producer, Bionaut), Diana Mereoiu (Vienna Shorts), Philip Ilson (London Short Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival), Michal Bla\u0161ko (successful Slovak short filmmaker, currently developing his first feature film).<\/p>\n

Jacqueline (Athens, 1989) is a writer and director whose work revolves around unconventional family constructs, coming-of-age, intimacy and the dream. She is a London Film School graduate (Distinction<\/strong><\/em>, 2013), a Sarajevo (2014) and Berlinale (2015) Talents alumna. Her graduation project, Thirteen Blue<\/strong><\/em>, screens in several international film festivals and wins, among others, the Golden Egg Award in Reykjavik IFF and Best International Short in Athens Film&Video FF getting shortlisted for the Oscar nomination.
\nHer semi-feature\u2019s, FOX<\/strong><\/em>, script was selected in Berlinale Short Film Station (2015). The film world premieres in Locarno (2016) winning Best International Short from Cinema&Gioventu Jury, and over other 20 awards worldwide. HIWA<\/strong> <\/em>(2017) world premieres in Berlinale and gets listed as one of the best shorts of the year in anOthermag.com. In 2017 she is invited by Vienna Shorts as Artist in Spotlight where a retrospective of her work is held. Recently, she is invited to represent Greece in Locarno Filmmakers\u2019 Academy, as well as in TIFF Talent Lab.
\nHer debut feature, SELENE66<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0participated in Torino Film Lab\u2019s Script and Pitch and won the CNC development award.<\/p>\n

\nPanel discussion on the current state and challenges of the Slovak film industry from the perspective of financing, infrastructure, services, and promotion. In recent years, film production in Slovakia has grown stronger, which is partly due to systematic funding from public sources (Audio-visual Fund, Radio and Television of Slovakia). AVF\u2019s support program helped Slovak film industry to become more and more accessible abroad. Are there any other options of financing film production? Which areas of the industry need to be reinforced if Slovakia is to become an internationally relevant and competitive film country?<\/p>\n

The discussion panel will be hosted by Zuzana Mistr\u00edkov\u00e1 (producer \u2013 Pubres, president \u2013 Association of Independent Producers). \nMASTERCLASS: Claudia Schnugg: INNOVATION, INSPIRATION, AND FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES: THE USE OF ARTISTIC FILM PROJECTS<\/u>

\nThe raising opportunities generated rapidly in computer science, technologies, and scientific research go along with a need for innovation and creativity in business and in society. Art as a playful approach to new technologies and cutting-edge science provides an opportunity to creatively explore, communicate, and contex-tualize these latest developments. Moreover, it provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and public engagement processes tackling stakeholders and social innovation. Therefore, corporations as well as governmental funding bodies like the European Commission push towards projects that include the collaboration between artists and scientists.<\/p>\n

Using the example of film and artistic film production, this master class approaches the topic asking questions like: How does such a project work? What are the important processes triggered by the interaction? How do storytelling, narration, and (science) fiction as important aspects of film support communication and creativity? And how can ideas, innovative processes and changes emerge?<\/p>\n
