Twelve Slovak films screen at the 8th Czech\u00a0& Slovak Film Festival<\/a>, starting on 24 March 2021. You can catch them all in Dendy Cinemas Newton in Sydney until 28 March 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The festival will open with the screening of the latest piece by Martin \u0160ul\u00edk The Man with the Hare Ears<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (2020). The story of a man who on a very peculiar day starts hearing thoughts of the others premiered at the 36th Warsaw Film Festiva in October 2020, and was bestowed the Best Director Award and the Ecumenical Jury Award.<\/p>\n

Further, the programme includes two Czech Awards 2020 holders, Charlatan<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(2020) by Agnieszka Holland,\u00a0inspired by the life of a herbalist Jan Mikol\u00e1\u0161ek, awarded in five cathegories including Bast Film, and Shadow Country<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(2020) by Bohdan Sl\u00e1ma, a black-and-white drama about the effects of the political events onto ordinary human`s relationships. The laller received six awards.<\/p>\n

Audience in Sydney is also getting a chance to see\u00a0Scumbag<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(2020) by Mariana \u010cengel Sol\u010dansk\u00e1 & Rudolf Biermann, based on the bestseller by Arp\u00e1d Solt\u00e9sz, that during its one-month cinema run in Slovaki last spring became the 2nd highest-admission domestic film of the independed Slovakia.<\/p>\n

Romantic comedy Far Too Personal<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (2020) by Marta Ferencov\u00e1 and psychological thriller Droneman<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(2020) by Petr Zelenka round up the selection of the feature films. On Saturday 20 March, a special screening of the comedy documentary on the socialist Czechoslovakia import, mking & distribution of the of the VHS tapes and, most importantly, the particular ways of dabbing, Video Kings<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (2020) by Luk\u00e1\u0161 Bulava.<\/p>\n

As usually, the festival does not ommit short filme either, and screens an all-animation\u00a0line-up Lunate<\/strong> <\/em>(2020) by Kl\u00e1ra Fedora Homzov\u00e1, On the Hill<\/em><\/strong> (2020) by Luk\u00e1\u0161 \u010eurica & Juraj M\u00e4siar, Chestnut Boy<\/em><\/strong> (2019)\u00a0 by Ag\u00e1ta Bola\u0148osov\u00e1, The Pit<\/em><\/strong> (2020) by Mark\u00e9ta Smol\u00edkov\u00e1 Kub\u00e1tov\u00e1, and Trust me<\/em><\/strong> (2019) by Zlata Golecov\u00e1.<\/p>\n

The classical Slovak cinema is too part of the CSFF. This year the programmers picked Night Riders<\/em><\/strong> (1981) by Martin Holl\u00fd. Slovak western set in the Czechoslovak-Polish froniters was digitally restored by the Slovak Film Institute digitization centra and premiered at the Lumiere Film Festival\u00a0in Lyon, France in October 2020.<\/p>\n

Czech & Slovak Film Festival launched in 2014\u00a0with an aim to bring and showcase a\u00a0selection of Czech and Slovak new and classical films in Australia. \u00a0The event is co-organized by the Slovak comapny ARINA and the Australian IKSIMA Films. Slovak Film Institute, Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic are partners of the event. The festival is financially supported by Slovak Audiovisual Fund.<\/p>\n
