International film festival will present contemporary Slovak cinema mainly within Slovak Season section, archive films will commemorate events of great significance and historical milestones as the 100th anniversary of The Founding of Czechoslovakia and a major figure of Slovak filmmaker Fero Feni\u010d as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The International Competition of Features Films includes Slovak <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-last-self-portrait\/\">The Last Self-Portrait<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>by Marek Kubo\u0161, an honest confession about why he is seriously considering ending his film career. Slovak-Portugese co-production <strong><em>Fight<\/em><\/strong> by Eva Kri\u017ekov\u00e1, revealing the principles of interpersonal interaction and communication, will be competing in International Competition of Shorts. Slovak producer L\u00edvia Filusov\u00e1 will be the part of the international jury this year.<\/p>\n<p>Slovak Season consists of 11 feature films, short animation <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/yellow\/\"><em>Yellow<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Ivana \u0160ebestov\u00e1) and three episodes of television series <strong><em>Constructing Slovakia: Bratislava\u2019s Winter Harbour<\/em>, <em>The Dubnica Arms Factory<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>The Partiz\u00e1nske Shoe Factory<\/em><\/strong> by Bibiana Be\u0148ov\u00e1. Festival will also present<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-line\/\"><em>The Line<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (dir. Peter Bebjak), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/insect\/\"><em>Insect<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Jan \u0160vankmajer), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-interpreter\/\"><em>The Interpreter<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (dir. Martin \u0160ul\u00edk), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-flower-shop\/\"><em>The Flower Shop<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (dir. Ruben Desiere), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/nina\/\"><em>Nina<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(d. Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd) and documentaries <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/heavy-heart\/\"><em>Heavy Heart<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (dir. Marek \u0160ul\u00edk), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/valek\/\"><em>V\u00e1lek<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Patrik Lan\u010dari\u010d), <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-lust-for-power\/\"><strong><em>The Lust for <\/em>Power<\/strong> <\/a>(dir. Tereza Nvotov\u00e1), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/elsewhere\/\"><em>Elsewhere<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Juraj Nvota, Marian Urban). Psychological thriller <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/intimate-enemy\/\"><em>Intimate Enemy<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (dir. Karel Jan\u00e1k), which reacts to technology\u2019s ever more frequent intrusions into our privacy will have a special pre-release. The life of controversial figure of Slovak mountaineering: Pavel \u201cThe Spider\u201d Pochyl\u00fd (1945\u20132000) captures documentary <strong><em>The Spider<\/em><\/strong> by \u013dubom\u00edr Slivka. Art Film Fest will for the first time take place in Spi\u0161sk\u00e1 Nov\u00e1 Ves during the first weekend.<\/p>\n<p>This year will dedicate a Special Award Actor&#8217;s Mission to Slovak actress Zuzana Maur\u00e9ry. The festival will screen <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-teacher\/\"><em>The Teacher<\/em> <\/a><\/strong>(dir. Jan H\u0159ebejk), which earned her Best Actress award at Karlovy Vary IFF, and the feature debut <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/eshop\/uncategorized\/fine-thanks\/\"><em>Fine, Thanks<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>by M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Prikler, which earned Maur\u00e9ry a Slovak national film award The Sun in a Net.<\/p>\n<p>Polish director Agnieszka Holland will receive Golden Camera award, and given this occasion, a minority Slovak co-production <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/spoor\/\"><em>Spoor<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Agnieszka Holland, Kasia Adamik) will be screened. The film was world premiered in the Main Competition of the 67th Berlinale.<\/p>\n<p>Fero Feni\u010d Special is a section dedicated to the founder of Febiofest Film Festival. The section consists of his work among other films. <em><strong>Diadem<\/strong> <\/em>and <strong><em>There and Back<\/em><\/strong> both belong to National Film Archive collection of Slovak Film Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Variety Select: Art Films is a selection dedicated to well-known artists. This year&#8217;s festival will screen co-production documentary <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/cervena\/\"><em>\u010cerven\u00e1<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Olga Sommerov\u00e1), which received The Czech Lion Award last year.<\/p>\n<p>Two sections will commemorate notable Slovak historic events. Topic: 100 SK\/CZ (100 Years of Fellowship) will evoke 100th anniversary of founding of Czechoslovakia by the medium of older and new feature and documentary films like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/dubcek\/\"><em>Dub\u010dek<\/em><\/a> <\/strong>(dir. Laco Halama), <strong><em>Newsreel 20\/1990: \u0160tef\u00e1nik&#8217;s Ressurrection<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Vladim\u00edr Min\u00e1\u010d), <strong><em>Leopoldov Fortress<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Ladislav Kubelka) and <strong><em>The Time We Are Living<\/em><\/strong> (dir. collective of authors). Documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/occupation-1968\/\"><em><strong>Occupation 1968<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>will be presented in Slovak premiere. Five countries from the Warsaw Pact occupied Czechoslovakia in 1968. Fifty years later, five directors from these five countries shot five short films about the invasion from the perspectives of occupiers. The film will be presented by director Marie Elisa Scheidt, protagonist Ilya Lvovitch Smolokovskiand Slovak producer Peter Kerekes.<\/p>\n<p>Screenings primarily for schools will be held within the accompanying events. Block August 1968 (from Dub\u010dek to Palach) consists of 3 newsreels dating from 1968\/1969, along with <strong><em>Commemoration<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Vlado Kubenko, Peter Mih\u00e1lik, Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk), a documentary on the funeral of Jan Palach, a university student who immolated himself in response to the 1968 invasion.<\/p>\n<p>The second block Masaryk, \u0160tef\u00e1nik and the birth of Czechoslovakia consists of rare archive footage and short newsreels from 1921 \u2013 1990 namely <strong><em>Masaryk in Slovakia \/ President Masaryk&#8217;s Visit to Slovakia<\/em>, <em>The Czechoslovak Week in Film 19\/1947<\/em>, <em>The Week in Film 15\/1968<\/em><\/strong> (dir. \u0160tefan Ondrkal), <strong><em>Newsreel 13\/1990 <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Emil Fornay), <em><strong>Newsreel 20\/1990: \u0160tef\u00e1nik&#8217;s Ressurrectio<\/strong>n<\/em> (dir. Vladim\u00edr Min\u00e1\u010d) and <strong><em>Probe 4\/1990: Lost History?<\/em><\/strong> (dir.
