Once again, Lubuskie Film Summer<\/a><\/strong> in Lagow (June 24 \u2013 July 1, 2018), International Film Festival of Central and Eastern European Cinema will introduce a wide range of Slovak films to Polish audiences. Nine films will be presented in tree competition sections, and many more will be screened in the non-competition programme.<\/p>\n

The Feature Film Competition<\/a> will show successful criminal thriller from the Slovak-Ukrainian border The Line<\/em><\/a> (2017) by Peter Bebjak, Nina<\/em><\/a> (2017) by Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd, touching drama about a twelve-year-old girl whose world falls apart when her parents are getting a divorce, as well as unconventional biographical story of Russian poet Anna Barkova 8 Heads of Madness<\/em><\/a> (2017) directed by Marta Nov\u00e1kov\u00e1.<\/p>\n

Five Slovak films will vie for the Golden Grape Award in the Documentary Competition<\/a>. Young director So\u0148a Maletzov\u00e1 will introduce her mid-length documentary Varga<\/em> (2017) about recently deceased extraordinary Slovak musician Mari\u00e1n Varga. Further documentaries in this competition section are Coolt\u00fara<\/em> (2016) by Miro Remo, The Lust for Power <\/em><\/a>(2017) by Tereza Nvotov\u00e1, Adam Hanuljak\u00b4s Ten Years of Love<\/em> (2017) and March or Die<\/em> (2018) by Michael Kabo\u0161.<\/p>\n

Slovakia\u00b4s representative in the Short Film Competition<\/a> is internationally acclaimed festival hit Atlantis, 2003<\/em><\/a> (2017) by Michal Bla\u0161ko, that had it\u00b4s world premiere at the 70th Festival de Cannes<\/a> (Cin\u00e9fondation<\/a>) and was later screened at a great number of important international film festivals, such as 52nd Karlovy Vary IFF<\/a> (Future frames<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Non-competition section European cinema will introduce Czech and Slovak coproduction title \u010cerven\u00e1 <\/em><\/a>(2017), documentary biopic about world-famous opera singer So\u0148a \u010cerven\u00e1, directed by Olga Sommerov\u00e1, thriller Kidnapping<\/em><\/a> (2017) by Mariana \u010cengel-Sol\u010dansk\u00e1, inspired by real events of Slovakia\u00b4s recent past, as well as Jan H\u0159ebejk\u00b4s trilogy Garden Store<\/em> (2017): Deserter<\/em><\/a>, <\/strong>Suitor<\/em><\/a> and The Family Friend<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Every year, the festival offers a presentation platform for student works. A selection of six short films from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava will be screened in the section European film schools, notably Handstern<\/em> (2016) and SelFish<\/em> (2017) by Luk\u00e1\u0161 Fige\u013e, A\u00fa\u00fa\u00fana<\/em> (2017) by Lina \u0160ukov\u00e1, About My Sister<\/em> (2016) by Barbora Sliepkov\u00e1, M\u00e1ria Pin\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1\u00b4s Sandwiches – Czech Treasure<\/em> (2017), Night Fell<\/em> (2017) by Boris \u0160lapeta and Martina Buchelov\u00e1\u00b4s Magic Moments<\/em> (2016).<\/p>\n

Apart from the great number of recent Slovak films, Lubusskie Film Summer<\/a> will present also one archive title in this year\u00b4s programme. The documentary Pictures of the Old World<\/em><\/a> by internationally acclaimed director Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k,<\/strong> a suggestive portrait of old people from the Liptov and Orava regions in Slovakia, who are able to enjoy their individual freedom even in the times of civilisational chaos and insecurity, will be screened within the 50 Years of Prague Spring section<\/a>.<\/p>\n
