The Filmoteca Espa\u00f1ola<\/a> will celebrate the centenary of former Czechoslovakia. On this special occasion, Cine Dor\u00e9, one of the oldest cinemas in Spain will introduce film showcase Czechoslovak century (November 6 \u2013 29, 2018).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The showcase will present a selection of ten films of various genres and different time periods from these two countries, connected by mutual history, similar world view and a specific sense of humor. Some of the selected titles were produced in former Czechoslovakia and are part of the cultural heritage of both countries; some are more recent works by independent Czech and Slovak producers, comprising coproductions between both countries, such as \u017delary<\/em> <\/strong>by Ond\u0159ej Trojan, Academy Award nominee for best foreign language film, which will open the showcase on November 6th. The novel adaptation tells a story about the human soul, about happiness, desires and moral values.<\/p>\n

Slovak majority productions include psychological drama Everything I Like<\/em><\/strong> by Martin \u0160ul\u00edk, documentary Paper Heads<\/em><\/a><\/strong> by Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k about the relation between citizens and political power and four unique stories about various forms of love among blind people, Blind Loves<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd. Director Matej Min\u00e1\u010d will personally introduce his film Nicholas Winton \u2013 The Power of Good<\/em><\/a><\/strong> to Spanish audiences, documentary about British hero who rescued many Jewish children from the Holocaust. The director will also participate in a discussion at the Jewish cultural centre Sefarad \u2013 Israel in Madrid. Alois Nebel <\/em><\/strong>by Tom\u00e1\u0161 Lu\u0148\u00e1k, adaptation of graphic novel trilogy by Jaroslav Rudi\u0161 using rotoschoping technique, is the only animated film of the showcase.<\/p>\n

Prestigious cinema Cine Dor\u00e9 has had a history with Slovak films. In autumn 2017, the cinema presented a showcase of six films from the collection of the National Film Archive of the Slovak Film Institute (SFI), as well as seven short animations of young talented directors Michaela \u010cop\u00edkov\u00e1, Marta Prokopov\u00e1 and Veronika Obertov\u00e1.<\/p>\n

The showcase is organized by Filmoteca Espa\u00f1ola<\/a>, The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Madrid<\/a>, The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Madrid<\/a> and Centro Checo de Madrid<\/a>, in cooperation with the SFI.<\/p>\n
