Digitally restored films from the National Film Archive collection of the Slovak Film Institute<\/a> (SFI) are heading to prestigious film festivals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Viktor Kubal Retrospective will present in Spanish premiere the works of Slovak director, animator and artist at 51st Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival<\/a> (October 4 \u2013 14, 2018) while The\u00a0Barnab\u00e1\u0161 Kos\u00a0Case<\/em><\/strong><\/a> by Peter Solan will be screened in world premiere at Lumi\u00e8re Festival<\/a> (October 13 \u2013 21, 2018) in Lyon.<\/p>\n

The Viktor Kubal Retrospective will present digitally restored film The Bloody Lady<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (1980), inspired by historic legend about countess obssesed with eternal youth that has cost many young virgins their lives, will be screened along with a selection of Kubal\u00b4s animated shorts within this section. The audience of Sitges will have a chance to see Earth<\/em> <\/strong>(1966) that shows how the fertile lands are buried under the merciless pressure of technological progress until they become an urban jungle. Tom Thumb at the<\/strong> Magician’s<\/strong><\/em> (1973) will try to find a solution for his tiny stature and Cinema<\/em> <\/strong>(1977) will explore the relation between audience and film. The little traffic light will teach young boy how to cross the road safely in What Happened to Johnny on the Road<\/em><\/strong> (1981), the natural ways of forecasting weather will be the subject of The Weatherman<\/em><\/strong> (1983) and The Idol<\/strong> <\/em>(1989) will show two alternatives of fighting against pseudo-authorities and cults.<\/p>\n

Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0will also introduce short animation Untravel<\/em> <\/strong>(d. Ana Nedeljkovi\u0107, Nikola Majdak Jr.). Serbian-Slovak co-production about (local) patriotism, tourism and emigration will be presented within Anima\u00b4t Cortos section.<\/span><\/p>\n

Digitally restored film The Bloody Lady <\/em><\/strong>had its world premiere last year at the 9th Lumi\u00e8re Festival<\/a> in France, within the section Archival treasures and curiosities, that offers unique restored archive films from all over the world. This year\u00b4s edition of the section will present in world premiere digitally restored satirical tragicomedy The\u00a0Barnab\u00e1\u0161 Kos Case<\/em><\/strong> (1964) by Peter Solan. Festival Lumi\u00e8re has become one of the largest and most prestigious international festivals of classic cinema. Once a year in Lyon, the birthplace of the Cinematograph, the cinema world celebrates the vitality and memory of film, taking a contemporary journey through works of the past. The story is about Barnab\u00e1\u0161 Kos, the triangle player in a big symphony orchestra who is unexpectedly appointed its director. At first, the modest musician resists, but soon he realizes what kinds of behaviour form the inevitable rules governing people’s careers.<\/p>\n

The screenings of Slovak films in Sitges and Lyon will be introduced by Rastislav Steranka, the director of the National Cinematographic Center of the Slovak Film Institute.<\/p>\n
