Slovakia is one of the countries in spotlight of industry platform When East Meets West<\/a> (January, 20 \u2013 22, 2019). A numerous delegation of Slovak film professionals will be representing the country at the event that is running paralely to 30th Trieste Film Festival (January 18 \u2013 25, 2019). At the same time, the festival will introduce five Slovak films in various sections.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Interpreter<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>by Martin \u0160ul\u00edk will vie in the feature film competition, Occupation 1968<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Evdokina Moskovina, Linda Dombrovszky, Magda Szymk\u00f3w, Maria Elisa Scheidt, Stephan Komandarev) will compete in the documentary film competition, and animation title Untravel <\/em><\/strong><\/a>(dir. Ana Nedeljkovi\u0107, Nikola Majdak jr.) will be introduced in the short film competition. Furthermore, non-competition section Born in Trieste will screen documentary My Unknown Soldier<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Anna Kryvenko, and retrospective section 1989 \u2013 2019 Wind of Change will offer to Italian audiences Slovak classic Sitting on a Branch, I am Fine<\/em><\/strong> by Juraj Jakubisko, at the presence of the director.<\/p>\n

Slovakia will also have a strong presence at the well established industry platform When East Meets West<\/a> (WEMW). Each year, WEMW dedicates a special focus to two selected regions. This year’s edition will draw attention to the region of Central Eastern Europe, <\/strong>notably Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine, as well as Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands for the Benelux region. The aim of this regional East&West double focus is to offer the countries in spotlight a special room for the presentation of their audiovisual landscape, with the aim to strengthen collaboration between them. One of the case studies for an already existing and successful collaboration between the countries in focus will be Slovak-Ukrainian film The Line<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by director Peter Bebjak.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Slovak producer and director Peter Kerekes<\/a> will be jury member of the co-production forum. It was his project Wishing on a Star<\/em><\/a><\/strong> that won the main award \u2013 CNC Development Award \u2013 at last year\u00b4s edition. Among the 22 selected projects of this year\u00b4s edition is also feature debut by Michal Bla\u0161ko Victim<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. Last Stop Trieste,<\/strong> a work in progress section for projects in a stage of a fine cut, will screen Polish-Slovak documentary Wind<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Micha\u0142 Bielawski) to anexclusive panel of approximately 40 international sales agents, festival programmers and TV commissioning editors.<\/p>\n

The Slovak participation at WEMW 2019 is co-organized by the Slovak Film Institute (SFI) and the Slovak Film Commission (SFC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n
