The Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA)<\/a> will once again honour the most remarkable films and creative accomplishment of Slovak cinema. Slovak National Film Awards The Sun in a Net 2018<\/a> will be announced Friday, April 5, 2019 during the Gala ceremony, broadcasted live on TV channel Jednotka (RTVS<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Academy has nominated 14 films that will contend for prizes in 16 different categories.<\/p>\n

Czech-Slovak co-production Toman<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Ond\u0159ej Trojan), about the real-life contradictory person who headed the Department of Foreign Intelligence in the 1940s, vies for 14 awards, while The Interpreter<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by Martin \u0160ul\u00edk\u00a0scored 12 nominations two of which are\u00a0in the\u00a0Best Actor in a Leading Role category. Insect<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>by Jan \u0160vankmajer and\u00a0Jan Palach<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>by Robert Sedl\u00e1\u010dek\u00a0close up the four nominees in Best Fiction Film category.<\/p>\n

Turning to the other main categories, nominees for Best Documentary Film include\u00a0Occupation 1968<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by five directors and produced by Peter Kerekes, The Last Self-Portrait<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Marek Kubo\u0161) and V\u00e1lek<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Patrik Lan\u010dari\u010d). Fifi Fatale<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. M\u00e1ria Kralovi\u010d), Mimi and Lisa – Christmas Lights Mystery<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Katar\u00edna Kerekesov\u00e1, Ivana \u0160ebestov\u00e1) and Monster<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>by Martin Snopek are running for Best Animation Award.<\/p>\n

For the first time this year, The Slovak National Film Awards ceremony will be held prior to the Slovak Film Week<\/a> (April 9 \u2013 15, 2019) at Kino Lumi\u00e8re<\/a>, Bratislava, and will subsequently be shown in towns all around Slovakia. The showcase will feature consists of films premiered in 2018, as well as The Sun in a Net nominees and winners.<\/p>\n
