This March, the book salon Livre Paris<\/a> presents 25 Slovak books that have been translated to French. As Bratislava is City of Focus, Kino Visegrad<\/a> together with The Centre for Information on Literature<\/a> prepared a film showcase in cinema Christine 21 starting on 14 March. Kino Visegrad Pr\u00e9sent: Bratislava. Au bord, au centre lasts for four days, with the last screening on 17 March 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event presents three fiction and one documentary films. The first to be screen is Little Harbour<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1 based on the Anasoft Litera 2010 book award novel The Fifth Boat<\/em> written by Monika Kompan\u00edkov\u00e1; in 2018 the book was translated and published in France. The story of 11-years old Jarka who just wants to have a mum instead of a \u201cbestie\u201d and takes a chance to build her own little family harbour was world-premiered at the 67th Berlinale where it was awarded with Crystal Bear.<\/p>\n

The further two fiction films both were world premiered at IFF Rotterdam. My Dog Killer<\/em><\/a><\/strong> by Mira Fornay about one day in the life of a young neo-nazi Marek, his friends, family, and a dog screened in the Hivos Tiger Competition and received the Grand Prix Hivos Tiger. Four years later, the Bright Future section line-up included Filthy<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>by Tereza Nvotov\u00e1. Story of a teenaged Lena who is raped by her teacher in the broad day light at home has stirred a debate on what is the \u201cauthentic\u201d rape, as well on the nature of the care provided to the assaulted person.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, the event closes with a documentary by acclaimed male director on cooking and the influence of the historic events have on it Cooking History<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>by Peter Kerekes (2009).<\/p>\n

The event will welcome Monika Kompan\u00edkov\u00e1 and Mira Fornay for brief introductions and Q&As.<\/p>\n

Kino Visegrad Pr\u00e9sent: Bratislava. Au bord, au centre takes place with the support of the Slovak Institute in Paris.<\/p>\n
