The 45th anniversary edition of the Summer Film School Uhersk\u00e9 Hradi\u0161te<\/a> will traditionally give special attention to Slovak cinema. Beside fourteen Slovak feature-length films, contemporary works of film school students and selected shorts will be presented.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most anticipated film will be Let There Be Light<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Marko \u0160kop, recently premiered and awarded at the 54th Karlovy Vary IFF<\/a>. The film received Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury and Milan Ondr\u00edk won the Best Actor Award for the leading role.<\/p>\n

New Film Releases will present Slovak films produced over the past 12 months: directors\u2019 debuts By a Sharp Knife<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Teodor Kuhn) and Punk Never Ends!<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Juraj \u0160lauka), stories connected to Czechoslovak history Toman<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Ond\u0159ej Trojan) and Talks with TGM<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Jakub \u010cervenka), tragicomedy On the Roof<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Ji\u0159\u00ed M\u00e1dl) that portrays the relationship of a grumpy retired teacher and young Vietnamese illegal immigrant and Old-Timers<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Martin Du\u0161ek, Ond\u0159ej Provazn\u00edk) about two stubborn seniors who set out to exact revenge for a crime committed in the 1950s. Open Air cinema will screen mystery thriller The Rift<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>by Peter Bebjak, fairy-tale The Magic Quill<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Marek Najbrt and Shotgun Justice <\/i><\/a><\/strong>by Radek Bajgar.<\/p>\n

Summer Film School will honor Slovak actor Milan Lasica with special screenings of comedy Run, he is coming!<\/em><\/strong> by Du\u0161an Rapo\u0161 and impressionistic film Sweet Games of the Last Summer<\/em><\/strong> by Juraj Herz. Another Slovak classic film, Sitting on a Branch, I am Fine<\/em><\/strong> by Juraj Jakubisko will be presented within section focused on searching for the national identity with accent on humour Czechs \u2013 Who Are They? 2: Laughing Beasts.<\/p>\n

Short films will also have a strong presence in Uhersk\u00e9 Hradi\u0161t\u011b. In addition to the three student films Ad Revidendum<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Mat\u00fa\u0161 Ry\u0161an), Warm Comedy about Depression, Madness and Unfulfilled Dreams<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Michal \u010euri\u0161) and The Trip<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Daniel Rih\u00e1k), works of documentary director Marek Kubo\u0161 and animator Martin Snopek will be presented as well. Both filmmakers will attend screenings in person. The selection of Marek Kubo\u0161’s works will present shorts A Photographer\u2019s Journey, Vote 98, RS 2nd<\/span>\u00a0Line Kralovany, A Little Bit of Propaganda<\/em><\/strong>, accompanied by his feature-length debut The Last Self-Portrait<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. The selection of Martin Snopek\u2019s work will consist of shorts Encounter, The Ravenand the Fox, Pik and Nik, Everyday Grazing, Monster<\/a>, The Last Bus<\/em><\/strong> (co-dir. Ivana Lau\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1) and a collective work made during Snopek’s studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava Steps, Leaps, Years… and the Last One Turns Off the Light<\/em><\/strong>. Both directors will attend screenings in person.<\/p>\n

Most of the activities connected with Slovak cinema will take place on Tuesday, July 30th. On this day Klapka.sk<\/a> (store of the Slovak Film Institute) will be selling editorial products at discount prices in the cinema Hviezda.<\/p>\n
