This year the 7th edition of the Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia embraces the theme of \u201ckeys to the city\u201d that represents the people unlocking the doors of power and taking back control of their heartland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The festival will celebrate the 30th anniversary of 1989\u2019s famously peaceful Velvet Revolution, the beginning of a new era of democracy in Czechoslovakia. On this special occasion, festival will bring a program that reflects the topic and successful contemporary cinema to the audience of Melbourne (September 19 \u2013 22, 2019) and Canberra (October 4 \u2013 6, 2019).<\/p>\n

Opening Night\u2018s Czech-Slovak co-production On the Roof<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Ji\u0159\u00ed M\u00e1dl) will tell a story about meeting someone we consider to be a stranger, but it may be part that we miss. The program also includes the feature films Jan Palach<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Robert Sedl\u00e1\u010dek), Intimate Enemy<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Karel Jan\u00e1k), \u200b\u200bShotgun Justice<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Radek Bajgar) and documentary BATAstories<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Peter Kerekes). The youngest audience will enjoy the fairy tale Christmas Wish<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Peter Bebjak) and TV special Mimi & Lisa: Christmas Lights Mystery<\/em><\/strong> (d. Ivana \u0160ebestov\u00e1, Katar\u00edna Kerekesov\u00e1). Slovak short will be represented by Journey<\/strong> <\/em>(d. Marek Jasa\u0148) that combines several animation techniques and Off Season<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Andrea Kalinov\u00e1) about abandoned Machn\u00e1\u010d Sanatorium, one of the most remarkable buildings of the 20th century.<\/p>\n

Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia<\/strong> is organized by Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia<\/a> (CaSFFA) and IKSIMA Films<\/a>. Presentation of the Slovak cinema is financially supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, \u00darad pre Slov\u00e1kov \u017eij\u00facich v zahrani\u010d\u00ed<\/a> and covered by production company ARINA<\/a> and the Slovak Film Institute (SFI). The partners of the festival are the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Australia<\/a> (Canberra), the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic<\/a> and the Academy of Performing Arts<\/a> in Bratislava.<\/p>\n
