The festival will also present a selection of eight digitally restored Slovak documentary shorts made in 1960s and 1970s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Competition section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/programove-sekce\/prvni-svetla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First Lights<\/a> will introduce feature-length debut <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/frem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FREM<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>by Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1 which reacts to the current wave of post-humanist thinking caused by the development of technology and artificial intelligence as well as the climate crisis. The film will also compete against Slovak documentaries <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/never-happened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Never Happened<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Barbora Berez\u0148\u00e1kov\u00e1), <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-sound-is-innocent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Sound Is Innocent<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Johana O\u017evold) and <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-state-capture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The State Capture<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Zuzana Piussi) within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/programove-sekce\/ceska-radost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Czech Joy<\/a> section.<\/p>\n<p>Documentary <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/paradise-on-earth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paradise on Earth<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Jaro Vojtek) will world premiere in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/programove-sekce\/mezi-mori\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Between the Seas<\/a> section. The film about photographer and journalist Andrej B\u00e1n will be competing against <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-calling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Calling<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Eric Praus capturing the life of three monks living at the Orthodox Pochayiv Lavra monastery in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The festival audience will also have a chance to see <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/communism-and-the-net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Communism and the Net or The End of Representative Democracy<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Karel Vachek) in its world premiere. The six-hour essay in four parts examines the history of regimes and revolutions, leaders and martyrs, from a philosophical perspective. The same non-competitive section <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/programove-sekce\/zvlastni-uvedeni\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Special Event<\/a> will pay tribute to recently deceased Slovak director M\u00e1ria Rumanov\u00e1 and screen her documentary <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/sunrise-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hotel Sunrise<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/programove-sekce\/dokument-ct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Czech Television Documentaries<\/a>, a section composed of Czech Television production, will feature biopic <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/jiri-suchy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ji\u0159\u00ed Such\u00fd \u2013 Tackling Life with Ease<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Olga Sommerov\u00e1).<\/p>\n<p>Beside the contemporary Slovak documentary production, classics from the collections of the National Film Archive of the SFI will be presented as well: <strong><em>Water and Work <\/em><\/strong>(1963) by Martin Slivka, <strong><em>Old Shatterhand Came to See Us<\/em> <\/strong>(1966) by Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k, <em><strong>Photographing the House-Dwellers<\/strong><\/em> (1968) by Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk, <strong><em>Lilli Marlen<\/em><\/strong> (1970) by Peter Mih\u00e1lik, <strong><em>Cursed Valley<\/em><\/strong> (1966) by \u0160tefan Kamenick\u00fd, <em><strong>Confession <\/strong><\/em>(1968) by Pavel S\u00fdkora, <strong><em>The Unfinished Chronicle<\/em><\/strong> (1967) by Rudolf Urc and <strong><em>I Am a Cursed Photographer<\/em><\/strong> (1969) by Julius Matula. The directors Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk and Rudolf Urc will attend the screening which also includes a presentation of the 2-DVD Slovak Documentary Film 60 from the SFI Publications Department, compiled by Rudolf Urc together with the film publicist Pavel Branko.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Slovak participant of Emerging Producers, a promotional and educational project that brings together talented European documentary film producers is Tom\u00e1\u0161 Krupa (HAILSTONE).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Numerous world and international premieres of the Slovak documentaries will take place within the 23rd Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (October 24 \u2013 29, 2019).
