Barbora Sliepkov\u00e1) and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/ocista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ordeal<\/a> <\/em>(dir. Zuzana Piussi), will have their world premiere at 25th edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival<\/a> (October 26 \u2013 31, 2021) which will also showcase work of Karol Plicka, a pioneer of Czech-Slovak documentary cinema.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lines<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, a debut feature by Barbora Sliepkova, selected for Opus Bonum competition, is a visual essay about contemporary Bratislava, a post-socialist city in process of transformation to European metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>Czech Joy competition will showcase four Slovak films, including world premiere of Zuzana Piussi\u2019s <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/ocista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ordeal<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>about rule of law in contemporary Slovakia. <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/how-i-became-a-partisan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How I Became a Partisan<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Vera Lackov\u00e1) as well as two minority co-productions <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/love-dad\/\"><em>Love, Dad<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (dir. Diana Cam Van Nguyen), and <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/blood-kin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blood Kin<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Miroslav Bambu\u0161ek) are also up for best Czech doc of the year award.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-sailor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Sailor<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>by Lucia Ka\u0161ov\u00e1 is part of non-competitive section Constellations.<\/p>\n<p>Retrospective section Translucent Being: Karol Plicka will spotlight the work of this important auteur of Czech-Slovak cinema. Plicka made multiple film in Slovakia that are now part of collections of Slovak Film Institute archive. Festival will screen five such films, including <em><strong>The Earth Sings<\/strong><\/em> which was awarded at the 2nd Venice film festival in 1934. Other Slovak films include: <em><strong>Visiting Slovaks from New York through to Mississippi, The President of the Republic dr. E. Bene\u0161&#8217;s visit, Over Hill and Dale<\/strong>, <\/em>and <strong><em>Mr. President in Slovakia<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Slovak representatives are also taking part in the Industry program. The new forum for works-in-progress Ji.hlava New Visions includes Paula \u010eurinov\u00e1\u2019s <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/its-not-your-fault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It&#8217;s Not Your Fault<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. Silvia Pan\u00e1kov\u00e1 is one of the 2022 Emerging Producers. <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lines<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>and Tom\u00e1\u0161 Krupa\u2019s short film <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/we-have-to-survive-fukushima\/\"><em>We Have to Survive: Fukushima!<\/em><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0are nominated for the film market\u2019s Silver Eye Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Slovak films, Lines (dir.
