\"\"The Czech and Slovak Film Festival in Australia<\/a> (CaSFFA) will screen Peter Solan’s classic The Barnab\u00e1\u0161 Kos Case<\/em><\/a> (1964) in March. The festival, which is known for showcasing Slovak and Czech cinema in the first spring month, will be taking place from March 24 to April 2, 2023 in Sydney. In addition to Solan’s film, thirteen contemporary Slovak long and short films will also be featured at the festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The festival’s opening film is Il Boemo<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a historical musical drama about the rise and fall of Josef Myslive\u010dek, one of the most famous composers of the second half of the 18th century. The film, which won six awards at the recent Czech Lion Film Awards, including Best Feature Film and Best Director, tells the story of a man pursuing his dream of becoming an opera composer.<\/p>\n

Other Slovak and co-produced films that will be screened at the festival include Ivo Trajkov’s drama The Ballad of Piargy<\/a><\/strong>,<\/em> which has received sixteen nominations for the national film award Sun in the Net, Mariana \u010cengel Sol\u010dansk\u00e1’s fairy tale The Enchanted Cave<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Karol Vos\u00e1tko’s comedy Superwoman<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, Beata Parkanov\u00e1’s drama The Word<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Jan Pru\u0161inovsk\u00fd’s comedy Grand Prix<\/a><\/strong>,<\/em> Michaela Pavl\u00e1tov\u00e1’s animated drama My Sunny Maad<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, and Olga Sommerov\u00e1’s documentary Michael Koc\u00e1b<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and Tom\u00e1\u0161 Bojar’s Good Old Czechs<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong> The festival will also present several short films, including Lucie Sunkov\u00e1’s Suzie in the Garden<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, which was awarded the best animated film at the Czech Lion Awards, and three student films Ana<\/strong> <\/em>by Romana Candr\u00e1kov\u00e1, Connected <\/em><\/strong>by Petr Skye Kolo\u0161 and Hood Union<\/em><\/strong> by Kristi\u00e1n Grupa\u010d.<\/p>\n

Representing classical cinema at the festival is Peter Solan’s The Barnab\u00e1\u0161 Kos Case<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a satirical tragicomedy denouncing petty bourgeois experience, hypocrisy and intrigue. The digitally restored film has been screened at several major classic film festivals following its world premiere at the 2018 Lumi\u00e8re festival in Lyon.<\/p>\n
