\"\"The 16th edition of the International Animation Festival Fest An\u010da<\/a> (June 29 \u2013 July 2, 2023) promises to be an exceptional event celebrating the art of animation. With its usual dedication to showcasing the finest Slovak animated films, the festival will not only feature competition and non-competition sections but will also pay tribute to two remarkable milestones in the industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, Fest An\u010da celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute with a captivating programme of nine classic short animated films from the National Film Archive. Under the title “Archaeology of the Future,” this selection delves into the hyperbolized and often poignantly relevant themes of society from the last century. Through the lens of children and adults, ordinary individuals and scientists, comrades, and even “first people,” filmmakers present their subjective visions of society, relationships, technological progress, mass housing construction, the environment, and psycho-hygiene. The selection includes timeless works such as Vlastimil Herold’s The Apple of Knowledge<\/strong><\/em> (1955), Viktor Kubal and Leopold Br\u00f3dy’s We’re Entering the Nuclear Age<\/strong><\/em> (1963), Viktor Kubal’s Earth<\/strong> <\/em>(1966) and Selection<\/strong> <\/em>(1982), Ivan Popovi\u010d and Milan Pet’ovsk\u00fd’s Birthday, 2001<\/strong><\/em> (1973), Vladim\u00edr Pikal\u00edk’s The Motorpiano<\/em><\/strong> (1984), Milan \u010cern\u00e1k’s Grey and Green<\/strong><\/em> (1989), and two films by Ondrej Slivka, Umbrella<\/strong> <\/em>(1984) and If I Were a Bird…<\/strong><\/em> (1986). The screening, presented by Lea Pag\u00e1\u010dov\u00e1, will take place on Saturday, 1st July at 10:00 a.m. at the iconic Municipal Theatre \u017dilina.<\/p>\n

The festival will also commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Animation Department at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava with three programmes of short student films. Two programmes will present films Crocodile Doesn’t Give a Shit<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Matej Kladek), Undressed Lovers<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Katar\u00edna Kerekesov\u00e1), Anatomy of the Thought<\/strong> (dir. Peter Ko\u0161\u0165\u00e1l), In the Box<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Michal Struss), Drum and Bass<\/strong><\/em> (dir. M\u00e1ria Kralovi\u010d), tWINs<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Peter Budinsk\u00fd), Love at First Sight<\/strong> (<\/em>dir. Veronika Kocourkov\u00e1), Terra Nullius<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Martina Fraj\u0161t\u00e1kov\u00e1), Cowboyland<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. David \u0160tumpf), Contrast<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Barbora B\u00e1rkov\u00e1), Journey<\/strong> (dir. Marek Jasa\u0148), Poetika Anima<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Kriss Sagan), 4n1m4ws<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Katar\u00edna Geffertov\u00e1), In Line<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Kamila Ku\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1), Chilli<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Martina Miku\u0161ov\u00e1), Handstern<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Luk\u00e1\u0161 Figel), r a u u<\/strong> (dir. Zlata Golecov\u00e1), Mila Fog<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Marta Prokopov\u00e1). The third programme will also delight child viewers with If Not, So Not!<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Vladim\u00edr Kr\u00e1l), A Perfect Lair<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Lea Smitkov\u00e1), Rosso Papavero<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (dir. Martin Smatana), A\u00fa\u00fa\u00fana<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Lina \u0160ukov\u00e1), Automatina<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Ag\u00e1ta Bola\u0148osov\u00e1) and Catch Him!<\/strong> (dir. Boris \u0160ima).<\/p>\n

The best Slovak films will vie for the awards in the Slovak Competition of Short Animated Films: Criss Cross<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (dir. Nina Ryb\u00e1rov\u00e1, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Ryb\u00e1r), Zadig\/\u010clovek<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Andrea P\u00e1tkov\u00e1, Adam \u010curko, Viktoria Vor\u017e\u00e1\u010dkov\u00e1), My name is Edgar and I Have a Cow<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (dir. Filip Diviak), Extraordinary Tales from Town of Mindcery<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Veronika Trok\u0161iarov\u00e1, Zlata Golecov\u00e1), Slavo Turanec – Kamilka! Feat. Musical Ensemble Praktik\u00e1bel<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Slavo Turanec) and Mercy<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>(dir. Ivana Lau\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1).<\/p>\n

The non-competitive section Slovak Short Films will present a selection of contemporary domestic production: Slovak for a Word – Behind the Back <\/strong><\/em>(dir. Mari\u00e1n Vred\u00edk), I Don\u2019t Want to Go Yet<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Kl\u00e1ra Fedora Homzov\u00e1), Connected<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Peter S. Kolo\u0161), ANA<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Romana Candr\u00e1kov\u00e1), Delirium Collectoris<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Adriana Mi\u0161kov\u00e1), Deathless Love<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Zuzana Hodulov\u00e1), Like a Fish<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Nata\u0161a Strelov\u00e1), Zuza<\/em> <\/strong>(children from ZU\u0160 Kr\u010dava, under the guidance of M\u00e1ria Basanda Kov\u00e1\u010dov\u00e1), Grown up<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Emma Vir\u00e1g Csuport) and Heights<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Leonard Lofaj).<\/p>\n

This year, the Slovak film My Name is Edgar and I Have a Cow<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (dir. Filip Diviak) has made it to the International Short Film Competition, the section An\u010da in Wonderland will present How to Make Banana Pancakes<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Slavo Turanec) and the thematic focus Utopias: We Are in This Boat Together will screen The P<\/strong>andas<\/strong> <\/em>by Mat\u00fa\u0161 Viz\u00e1r.<\/p>\n

Among the feature films, the festival will present White Plastic Sky<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Tibor B\u00e1n\u00f3czki, Sarolta Szab\u00f3) and The Websters Movie<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Katar\u00edna Kerekesov\u00e1).<\/p>\n
