The 18th edition of International Film Festival Cinematik<\/a> (September 12 \u2013 17, 2023) brings more than two dozens Slovak films including internationally awarded works such as Photophobia<\/a><\/em> or Stepne<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute and the occasion of Viktor Kubal\u2019s centenary, festival will screen his two feature length animations: Brigand Jurko<\/strong><\/em> and The Bloody Lady<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the Cinematik.doc competition, eight films are up for the best Slovak documentary crown, three of which are screened in Slovak premiere: Truth Is All There Is<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Maro\u0161 Br\u00e1zda), A Happy Man<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. So\u0148a G. Lutherov\u00e1), and All Men Become Brothers<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Robert Kirchhoff). The selection also includes Andy Warhol \u2013 The American Dream<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. \u013dubom\u00edr J\u00e1n Slivka), What Did You Do to the Russiand?<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Michal Fulier, Jana Bu\u010dka Koval\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1), The Shift<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Jaro Vojtek), Territory of Imagination<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Paula Ma\u013e\u00e1rov\u00e1), and Grand Canyon<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Pavol Barab\u00e1\u0161).<\/p>\n

Highlights of the non-competitive section In the House are Venice-awarded Photophobia<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd, Pavol Pekar\u010d\u00edk) and Locarno-awarded Stepne<\/a><\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Maryna Vroda). Audience in Pie\u0161\u0165any can also look forward to four films that premiered in Karlovy Vary at the beginning of summer: Restore Point<\/a><\/strong> (dir. Robert Hloz), Brutal Heat<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Albert Hospod\u00e1\u0159sk\u00fd), A Sensitive Person<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Tom\u00e1\u0161 Klein), and We Have Never Been Modern<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Mat\u011bj Chlup\u00e1\u010dek). Traditionally, the selection includes student films from Academy of Performing arts in Bratislava \u2013 Connected<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Peter S. Kolo\u0161), Standing Still<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (dir. Monika Mah\u00fatov\u00e1), Homeland of Silence<\/strong><\/em> (dir. \u0160tef\u00e1nia Lovasov\u00e1), Dinner for 2 \u2013 Breakfast for 1<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Krist\u00edna \u017dilin\u010d\u00e1rov\u00e1) \u2013 and from Academy of Arts in Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica \u2013 We Didn\u2019t Ask to Be Saved<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Mariia Yurchenko), Shades of Light<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. D\u00e1\u0161a Ferkov\u00e1), Scattered Nest<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Valery Neskaradziany).<\/p>\n

Internationally successful films are also part of the Other Spaces<\/i> section: Power<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Prikler), Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Filip Po\u0161iva\u010d), and White Plastic Sky<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Tibor B\u00e1n\u00f3czki, Sarolta Szab\u00f3). Three shorts round up the selection: Disease<\/strong> <\/em>(dir. Jon\u00e1\u0161 Kar\u00e1sek), The Touching<\/strong><\/em>, and The Next One<\/em><\/strong> (both dir. Dominik Gy\u00f6rgy).<\/p>\n
