The 27th edition of\u00a0Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0(October 24 \u2013 29, 2023) will showcase multiple Slovak films, including the new ones by Jaro Vojtek and Vera Lackov\u00e1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two Slovak films were selected for the main competition\u00a0Opus Bonum\u00a0\u2013 both will be shown in world premiere:\u00a0The Third End of the Stick<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, directed by Jaro Vojtek, follows lives of multiple queer Romanis, while\u00a0You Will Never See It All<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, directed by \u0160t\u011bp\u00e1n Pech, explores life and work of Czech conceptual artist J\u00e1n Man\u010du\u0161ka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You Will Never See It All<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is also up for the best Czech documentary award.\u00a0Czech Joy\u00a0competition includes another two Slovak films in world premiere: Haruna Honcoop\u2019s doc about impact of Olympic architecture on cities\u00a0Olympic Halftime<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and Marta Kov\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1\u2019s film about her father Ji\u0159\u00ed Svoboda\u2019s fight for climatic justice\u00a0The World According to My Dad<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. Audience in Jihlava can also see\u00a0O Baripen<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0about renowned Romani writer Elena Lackov\u00e1, directed by her namesake Vera Lackov\u00e1; and two festival darlings:\u00a0Notes from Eremocene<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(dir. Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1) and\u00a0Photophobia<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/em>(dir. Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd and Pavol Pekar\u010d\u00edk).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young generation will showcase their talent with multiple short films. Robert Mih\u00e1ly\u2019s\u00a0The Most Beautiful Corner in the World<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, which examines Slovak nationalism, was selected for\u00a0Short Joy\u00a0competition, while\u00a0Beyond Anachronism: Eons of the Binary (Film)<\/em><\/strong>, an essay on digital age and nostalgia by Claude Johann \u010cierny, was selected for\u00a0Fascinations: Exprmntl.cz. Non-competitive\u00a0First Lights\u00a0section dedicated to student films includes audio-visual diary\u00a0Dialogues<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>by Peter Podolsk\u00fd, an intimate farewell to the grandparents\u00a0Constant – an Homage to the Apartment<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by Paula \u010eurinov\u00e1, and a portrait of a successful MMA fighter Lucia Kraj\u010dovi\u010d\u00a0Vale tudo<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/em>by Tereza Smetanov\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last Slovak film in the programme is the doc on Alexander Dub\u010dek\u00a0All Men Become Brothers<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by Robert Kirchhoff, which was selected for\u00a0Czech Television Documentaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slovak projects and talent will be part of the Industry programme as well. Three projects will be presented at\u00a0Ji.hlava New Visions Forum: Europe:\u00a0600 Raids<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(dir. Krist\u00edna Leidenfrostov\u00e1),\u00a0If Pigeons Turned to Gold<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(dir. Pepa Lubojacki), and\u00a0Marathon<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/em>(dir. Peter Kerekes). Another two projects were selected for\u00a0Ji.hlava<\/em> New Visions Co-production Market:\u00a0The Other One<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(dir. Marie-Magdalena Kochov\u00e1) and\u00a0Beyond a Knit Cap<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(dir. Violette Deffontaines). Young producer\u00a0Matej Sotn\u00edk\u00a0will benefit from the\u00a0Emerging Producers\u00a0training and networking programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
