In the\u00a0TIFF Discovery\u00a0section, the feature film\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/solitude\/\">Solitude\u00a0<\/a><\/em>(dir. Ninna P\u00e1lmad\u00f3ttir) will have its world premiere, while\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/electra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Electra<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(dir. Daria Kashcheeva) will be screened in the\u00a0Short Cuts\u00a0section.<br><\/strong><br>The visually captivating drama\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/SOLITUDE.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Solitude<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is based on a screenplay by the award-winning R\u00fannar R\u00fannarson. The Icelandic-Slovak co-production (nutprodukcia) directed by Ninna P\u00e1lmad\u00f3ttir tells the story of a farmer who has lived his whole life in the peaceful Icelandic countryside, but is forced by the state to sell his house. The man leaves his home and moves to the capital, where he soon meets a 10-year-old boy who delivers newspapers in the neighbourhood. A friendship is born that profoundly affects both the man and the boy.<br><br>After world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and screenings at the festivals in Annecy or Karlovy Vary, director Daria Kashcheeva will present her film\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/electra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Electra<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>in Toronto\u2019s\u00a0Short Cuts\u00a0section. The short animated film is inspired by psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. The protagonist Electra rethinks her 10th birthday, mixing memories with dreams. Isolated in her fantasy world full of busty dolls, plastic men\u2019s body parts and dentist tools, she builds up her own relationships with her body and sexuality.
