{"id":38817,"date":"2024-01-18T13:04:10","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T12:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/novinky\/rotterdam-2024\/"},"modified":"2025-09-25T11:31:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T09:31:01","slug":"rotterdam-2024","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/rotterdam-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Slovak Films at Rotterdam 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Once again this year, the program of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (January 25 \u2013 February 4, 2024) featured several Slovak films. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/explanation-for-everything\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Explanation for Everything<\/a><\/em> was showcased in the Harbour section, and young audiences had a chance to see the animated shorts <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-kite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Kite<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/my-name-is-edgar-and-i-have-a-cow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">My Name Is Edgar and I Have a Cow<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hungarian-Slovak film <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/explanation-for-everything\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Explanation for Everything<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, directed by G\u00e1bor Reisz, about a high-school graduation that turns into a nationwide scandal was co-produced by Slovak company MPhilms. Students, teachers, parents, journalists, and politicians enter the story of unfulfilled love and a polarized society. This witty yet apt analysis of nationalism continues its successful festival run, which began last September with the Orizzonti Prize at the Venice Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Filip Diviak&#8217;s <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/my-name-is-edgar-and-i-have-a-cow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">My Name Is Edgar, and I Have a Cow<\/a><\/strong><\/em> has already been screened at festivals including Tallinn Black Nights, Dok Leipzig, AFI Fest, IndieLisboa, and Berlin&#8217;s KUKI. Co-produced by the Slovak company Raketa, the film narrates the journey of Edgar, who, following a visit to the slaughterhouse, brings home a newborn calf. As the calf matures and inadvertently wreaks havoc in a confined space, Edgar&#8217;s life takes a tumultuous turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-kite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Kite<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, directed by Martin Smatana and produced by BFILM, premiered at the 2019 Berlinale and went on to be showcased at more than 200 international festivals.
