Slovak cinema will have a strong representation at this year’s 57th Karlovy Vary IFF<\/a> (June 30 \u2013 July 8). The official programme features 12 Slovak films and five Slovak projects will be presented within industry days.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Crystal Globe Competition, two Slovak minority co-productions will world premiere \u2013 a dystopian drama A Sensitive Person<\/a><\/em> directed by Tom\u00e1\u0161 Klein and a detective drama We Have Never Been Modern<\/a><\/em> by Mat\u011bj Chlupa\u010dek. In the Proxima Competition, the festival will present another world premiere, Albert Hospod\u00e1\u0159sk\u00fd’s debut Brutal Heat<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Out of the Past section will present Maro\u0161 Br\u00e1zda’s debut The Truth Is All There Is<\/a><\/em>, a bio-documentary film about the director Eduard Gre\u010dner as well as his digitally restored film Dragon’s Return<\/a><\/em> (1967).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three Slovak films are included in the Special Screenings section. A Slovak majority All Men Become Brothers<\/a><\/em>, Robert Kirchhoff’s creative documentary about Alexander Dub\u010dek, as well as two Slovak minority films \u2013 Snake Gas<\/a><\/em> by David Ja\u0159ab and Restore Point<\/em><\/a> by Robert Hloz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monika Mah\u00fatov\u00e1 made it to the Future Frames section and the festival will present her short fiction Standing Still<\/em> in its world premiere. Daria Kashcheeva’s animated short Electra<\/a><\/em> (world premiere in Cannes 2023) is included in the Imagina section, and a full-length animated film by the director-duo Tibor B\u00e1n\u00f3czki and Sarolta Szab\u00f3 White Plastic Sky<\/a><\/em> (world premiere at Berlinale 2023) will be presented in the Horizons section. An animated short Suzie in the Garden<\/em><\/a> by Lucie Sunkov\u00e1 will be screened within the Pragueshorts at KVIFF section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several upcoming film projects will represent Slovakia in the Industry program Eastern Promises. A film in development Flight from Kabul<\/a><\/em> by director Sahraa Karimi and producer Wanda Adam\u00edk Hrycov\u00e1 is included in the Feature Launch presentation, organized by the Karlovy Vary festival in cooperation with the international platform MIDPOINT Institute. This year, Works in Progress will present three co-production projects The Editorial Office<\/em><\/a> by Roman Bondarchuk, I’m Not Everything I Want To Be<\/a><\/em> by Kl\u00e1ra Tasovsk\u00e1 and The Other One<\/a><\/em> by Marie-Magdalena Kochov\u00e1. The First Cut+ program will present Zden\u011bk Jir\u00e1sk\u00fd’s film in post-production I Don’t Love You Anymore<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presentation of Slovak cinema at the 57th IFF Karlovy Vary 2023 is provided by the National Cinematographic Center of the Slovak Film Institute (SFI) and will be held within rich participation of Slovak filmmakers.
