Finale Plze\u0148<\/a> is an annual showcase of contemporary Czech film and TV production. The program of the 37th edition, which takes place on September 20 \u2013 25, 2024, includes a number of Slovak films.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Feature Live Action or Animated Films Competition, seven Slovak works are competing for the Golden Kingfisher. The first fiction feature of the award-winning Czech documentary filmmaker Veronika Li\u0161kov\u00e1, Year of the Widow<\/a><\/em>, which follows a woman\u2019s coping with the sudden loss of her husband, will be presented in world premiere. The selection also includes Her Body<\/a><\/em> by Nat\u00e1lia C\u00edsa\u0159ovsk\u00e1, a story of Czech high diver and porn actress Andrea Absolonov\u00e1; Adam Martinec\u2019s tragicomedy about the village celebration, Our Lovely Pig Slaughter<\/a><\/em>, a psychological drama about deep-rooted fear, Calm in the Canopy<\/a><\/em> by Michal Hogenauer; Beata Parkanov\u00e1\u2019s intimate family drama about a six-year-old girl dealing with her parents\u2019 marital crisis, Tiny Lights<\/a><\/em>; a look at the events of August 1968 through the eyes of the Czechoslovak Radio\u2019s international news office, Waves<\/a><\/em>, directed by Ji\u0159\u00ed M\u00e1dl; and the animated feature Living Large<\/a><\/em> by Kristina Dufkov\u00e1 about a young boy struggling with his weight, who ultimately learns that it\u2019s not a person\u2019s appearance that truly matters, but how they feel about themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Documentary Film Competition, six Slovak works are vying for prizes: a story about the friendship between a girl and a boy who are hiding from the war in the Kharkiv metro station, Photophobia<\/a><\/em> by Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd and Pavol Pekar\u010d\u00edk; Sonia G. Lutherov\u00e1\u2019s view of the Slovak-Czech family, one member of which is going through a transition, A Happy Man<\/a><\/em>; a portrait of photographer Libu\u0161e Jarcovj\u00e1kov\u00e1, I\u2019m Not Everything I Want to Be<\/a><\/em> by Kl\u00e1ra Tasovsk\u00e1; another collaboration between director Apolena Rychl\u00edkov\u00e1 and reporter Sa\u0161a Uhlova, which examines the working conditions of the precariat, The Limits of Europe<\/a><\/em>; Marta Kov\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1\u2019s film about her to father, physicist and environmentalist Ji\u0159\u00ed Svoboda, The World According to My Dad<\/a><\/em>; and an intimate look at the life of a teenage woman who grows up in the shadow of a sister with autism, The Other One<\/a><\/em> by Marie-Magdalena Kochov\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the First Catch section, intended for premieres and pre-premieres, the audience in Plze\u0148 can see Viktor Tau\u0161\u2019s new film, The American<\/a><\/em>, about growing up in an orphanage and searching for freedom; and a documentary about Czechoslovak post-war architecture, Czechoslovak Architecture 58\u201389<\/a><\/em> by Jan Zaj\u00ed\u010dek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another seven Slovak films will be presented in the In the Nets of 2023-24 section. The Last Aristocrat 2<\/a><\/em> is a sequel to Ji\u0159\u00ed Vejd\u011blek\u2019s successful comedy about a slightly crazy family who regained the family castle after the Velvet Revolution. Brothers<\/a><\/em>, directed by Tom\u00e1\u0161 Ma\u0161\u00edn, tells the story of the resistance group of the Ma\u0161\u00edn brothers from the beginning of the 1950s. In I Don’t Love You Anymore<\/a><\/em>, Zden\u011bk Jir\u00e1sk\u00fd follows two teenagers running away from home. Bohdan Sl\u00e1ma will present two films: Dry Season<\/a><\/em> reflects on the climate crisis in the Czech context, while The End of the World<\/a><\/em> returns to the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia. Two other films were inspired by real serial killers: Petr H\u00e1tle made a film Mr and Mrs Stodola<\/a><\/em> about this infamous couple, and Radim \u0160pa\u010dek took a closer look at the life of Viktor Kalivoda in the film The Forest Killer<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slovak films can also be found in the Czech Traces section. R\u00e9veillon<\/a><\/em> by Michal Kunes Kov\u00e1\u010d deals with coming to terms with the past in the early 1990s, while Jakub Kr\u00f3ner\u2019s MIKI<\/a><\/em>, set in the same decade, takes a close look at organized crime in Slovakia. Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1\u2019s drama The Hungarian Dressmaker<\/a><\/em> returns to the period of the Second World War, Roman Bondarchuk reflects on contemporary Ukraine in the film The Editorial Office<\/a><\/em>, and genre cinema is represented by Peter Bebjak\u2019s mysterious Whirlwind<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
