The theme of the 12th year of the Czech & Slovak Film Festival of Australia (CaSFFA) is Labyrinth. The festival will take place in the cities of Melbourne and Adelaide and will bring to the big screens 13 Slovak films.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audiences will have the opportunity to see the most films in Melbourne (October 10 – 20). The new releases that premiered in Karlovy Vary Film Festival<\/a> this year and are currently experiencing success in Slovak and Czech cinemas are among them: historical drama The Hungarian Dressmaker<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1), the co-production Our Lovely Pig Slaughter<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Martin Adamec) and the documentary film I\u00b4m Not Everything I Want to Be<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Kl\u00e1ra Tasovsk\u00e1, Berlinale 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less recent Slovak titles She – Hero<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Mira Fornay, Berlinale 2023) and Nightsiren<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Tereza Nvotov\u00e1, Locarno 2022) will also be screened, as well as co-productions: The Last Aristocrat 2<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Ji\u0159\u00ed Vejd\u011blek), Calm in the Canopy<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Michal Hogenauer) and Waltzing Matilda<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Petr Slav\u00edk).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides the film She – Hero<\/strong><\/em>, young audiences can also look forward to the full-length animation Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Filip Po\u0161iva\u010d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the short films, documentaries A Good Mind Grows in Thorny Places<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (which was presented by director Katar\u00edna Gramatov\u00e1 in Karlovy Vary as part of the Future Frames section) and Cold and Dark<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Peter Ho\u0161t\u00e1k) will be screened, followed by the short fiction Far Between Us<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Vojtech Javurek) and animation The Wasteland<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Timotej Lukovi\u010d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival also prepared a focus on the director Ji\u0159\u00ed Menzel at The Melbourne Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que, which will offer a selection of favourite classics, including the Slovak co-production I Served the King of England<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Adelaide (November 1 – 9), the co-production The Last Aristocrat 2<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Ji\u0159\u00ed Vejd\u011blek) and the full-length children’s animated film Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Filip Po\u0161iva\u010d) will be screened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
