{"id":44337,"date":"2024-10-17T19:40:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-17T17:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/novinky\/jeden-svet-2024\/"},"modified":"2024-10-18T11:52:37","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T09:52:37","slug":"one-world-2024","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/one-world-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Slovak documentary at One World festival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 25th edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jedensvet.sk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>International Documentary Film Festival One World<\/strong><\/a> (October 18 \u2013 27, 2024 in Bratislava; October 28 \u2013 November 3 online) gives special attention to Slovak documentary films focusing on current social problems thanks to its competition section, while the program for film professionals, Impact Days, helps not only film projects to systematically work with impact campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ten films are competing for the festival\u2019s main prize in the section Slovakia and the Czechia for Human Rights, six of which are Slovak. <em>Martin Pollack: Looking into the Abyss<\/em> directed by Jaroslav Vojtek thematizes the Slovak National Uprising in Slovakia&#8217;s collective memory through the life story of the Austrian reporter and writer Martin Pollack. In the film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-question-of-the-future\/\">The Question of the Future<\/a><\/em>, Maro\u0161 Br\u00e1zda follows a group of high school graduates who have decided to go to university abroad, while trying to understand what led them to this decision. The film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/fakir\/\">Fakir<\/a><\/em>, directed by Roman \u010euri\u0161, tells the story of young Dalibor, who was born into a dysfunctional family and who tries to break out of generational poverty. In their film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/hanging-without-walls\/\">Hanging Without Walls<\/a><\/em>, Jana Durajov\u00e1 and Lena Ku\u0161nierikov\u00e1 capture the multi-year reconstruction of the Slovak National Gallery and ask what is Slovakia\u2019s relationship to cultural institutions. Daniela Meressa Rusnokov\u00e1 will present her personal film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/grey-zone\/\">Grey Zone<\/a><\/em> about premature births and the rescue of highly immature infants. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/ms-president\/\">Ms. President<\/a><\/em>, directed by Marek \u0160ul\u00edk, also the final film of the festival, observes Zuzana \u010caputov\u00e1 during her five years in the presidential office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Focus: Queer Joy section, the audience can see the short film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/house-of-velvet\/\">House of Velvet<\/a><\/em> by Ivana Huc\u00edkov\u00e1 and Igor Smitka about the Czech-Slovak ballroom scene. One World for Children section, intended primarily for children, includes the animated film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/hello-summer\/\">Hello Summer<\/a><\/em> by Martin Smatana and Veronika Zacharov\u00e1. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-world-according-to-my-dad\/\">The World According to My Dad<\/a><\/em>, directed by Marta Kov\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1, in which she follows her father, a physicist and environmental activist Ji\u0159\u00ed Svoboda, will be shown at a special screening in the St. Vincent de Paul shelter. The festival also includes the screening of six films, which are the result of a year-long workshop for amateur filmmakers, My Street Films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival continues its activities aimed at social change in films and other art forms.
