{"id":44422,"date":"2024-10-25T19:14:46","date_gmt":"2024-10-25T17:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/?post_type=novinka&#038;p=44422"},"modified":"2024-10-25T09:41:47","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T07:41:47","slug":"jihlava-2024","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/jihlava-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Multiple Slovak premieres and a retrospective in Jihlava"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As always, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ji-hlava.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Documentary Films Festival in Jihlava<\/a><\/strong> gives a lot of space to Slovak cinema. It will not be any different at the 28th edition (October 25 \u2013 November 3, 2024), whose opening film will be <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/ms-president\/\">Ms. President<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marek \u0160ul\u00edk\u2019s new film, which follows Zuzana \u010caputov\u00e1\u2019s five-year tenure in the presidential office, will have its world premiere in Jihlava. At the same time, the film competes for prizes in the main competition section of the festival, Opus Bonum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two Slovak titles in the First Lights competition intended for feature-length debuts and second films. Marie Dvo\u0159\u00e1kov\u00e1\u2019s film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/world-between-us\/\">World Between Us<\/a><\/em>, also in Czech Joy competition, a portrait of the world-famous Czech photographer Marie Tomanov\u00e1, will be screened in world premiere. International premiere awaits for Daniela Meressa Rusnokov\u00e1\u2019s debut <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/grey-zone\/\">Grey Zone<\/a><\/em> which is dedicated to premature-born children and their mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Czech Joy is a competition for the best Czech documentary films of the past year and as many as seven of them are also Slovak this year. Zuzana Piussi\u2019s new film <em>Scent Evidence<\/em>, which examines the admission of controversial scent trail evidence in courts, will have its first public screenings in Jihlava. The festival will also feature Peter Kerekes\u2019 latest film, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/wishing-on-a-star\/\">Wishing on a Star<\/a><\/em>, which premiered in Venice; <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/fakir\/\">Fakir<\/a><\/em>, directed by Roman \u010euri\u0161, which started its festival life at Dok.fest M\u00fcnchen; just days after being awarded in Warsaw, <em>War Correspondent<\/em> by David \u010c\u00e1lek and Benjamin Tu\u010dek; Ond\u0159ej Vavre\u010dka\u2019s CPH:DOX-awarded <em>Lichens Are the Way<\/em>; and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-birdhill\/\">The Birdhill<\/a><\/em> directed by Eva Kri\u017ekov\u00e1 with its first non-Slovak screening. One of the jury members of this competition is Slovak documentary filmmaker Pavol Pekar\u010d\u00edk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Czech Television Documentaries section, the festival will present four other Slovak films: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/czechoslovak-architecture-58-89\/\">Czechoslovak Architecture 58\u201389<\/a><\/em> (dir. Jan Zaj\u00ed\u010dek) about Czechoslovak post-war architecture; a portrait of the prominent Czech actress Iva Jan\u017eurov\u00e1, shot by her daughter Theodora Remundov\u00e1, titled <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/janzurka\/\">Actress<\/a><\/em>; the Berlinale entry <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/im-not-everything-i-want-to-be\/\">I&#8217;m Not Everything, I Want to Be<\/a><\/em> (dir. Kl\u00e1ra Tasovsk\u00e1) about the photographer Libu\u0161e Jarcovj\u00e1kov\u00e1; and Marie-Magdalena Kochov\u00e1 debut <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-other-one\/\">The Other One<\/a><\/em> about a family in which one child has special needs, while their sister always remains \u201cthe other one\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival is devoting one of its retrospectives to the twenty-year directing and producing careers of V\u00edt Klus\u00e1k and Filip Remunda. Four of the selected films were also co-produced with Slovakia: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/steam-on-the-river\/\">Steam on the River<\/a><\/em> (dir. Robert Kirchhoff, Filip Remunda), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/once-upon-a-time-in-poland\/\">Once Upon a Time in Poland<\/a><\/em> (dir. V\u00edt Klus\u00e1k, Filip Remunda), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-white-world-according-to-daliborek\/\">The White World According to Daliborek<\/a><\/em> (dir. V\u00edt Klus\u00e1k) and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-limits-of-europe\/\">Limits of Europe<\/a><\/em> (dir. Apolena Rychl\u00edkov\u00e1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another retrospective is devoted to Slovak cinema during the period of the Second World War so-called Slovak State. The program We Have Our Film!, which takes its name from this year\u2019s book by Petra Han\u00e1kov\u00e1, also a curator of the retrospective, will bring 24 films and newsreel fragments made in 1941 \u2013 1946, a period when the Slovak cinema was institutionalized for the first time. Audience in Jihlava will have the opportunity to see rarely screened films from the weekly newsreel <em>N\u00e1stup<\/em> and monthly <em>L\u00fa\u010d<\/em>, as well as short, so-called cultural films about Slovak history, traditions, industry, and nature; or the only feature-length film of this period <em>From the Tatras to the Sea of Azov<\/em> (1942) about Slovak soldiers fighting on the Eastern front. The selection also includes films made right after the war capturing its aftermath and reflecting on the past era. Among the films, we can find the first works of the greats figures of Czechoslovak post-war cinema such as Pa\u013eo Bielik, J\u00e1n Kad\u00e1r, and Viktor Kubal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several Slovak projects will be presented to the professional audience in the Industry part of the festival. The upcoming film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/wasteland-chronicles\/\">Wasteland Chronicles<\/a><\/em> about three ecological disasters in Slovakia, which is being shot by directors Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1, Lucia Ka\u0161ov\u00e1, and Barbora Sliepkov\u00e1, will have a public presentation as part of the Ji.hlava New Visions Forum. The projects <em>Children of the Moonland<\/em> by Roman \u010euri\u0161 and <em>Prometea<\/em> by Krist\u00edna \u017dilin\u010d\u00e1rov\u00e1 were selected for the Ji.hlava New Visions Market.
