Ten titles from the collections of the Slovak Film Institute (SFI) will be presented, seven films will compete in the festival&#8217;s competition sections, and an additional eleven films will be shown in non-competitive programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Section SFI: Our Family Film Treasures will present ten archival films at Ko\u0161ice\u2019s \u00dasmev cinema, with exactly half of them being short films. The short film block titled Shorts from Eastern Slovakia will open with a video introduction by Rudolf Urc, who also curated the section. The selection features rarely screened works that portray Eastern Slovakia through the lens of documentary filmmakers, including: <em><strong>The Train Engine<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Karol Sk\u0159ipsk\u00fd), <strong><em>Marked by Darkness<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. \u0160tefan Uher), <strong><em>The house of Batromij<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Fero Feni\u010d), <em><strong>Interview<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Otakar Kriv\u00e1nek), and<strong> <em>Cursed Valley<\/em><\/strong> (dir. \u0160tefan Kamenick\u00fd).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the extensive archive of feature films, audiences will also see three titles in this program section: two dramedies <strong><em>When the Stars Were Red <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk, 1990) and <strong><em>I Love, You Love (<\/em><\/strong>dir. Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k, 1980) and the psychological drama <strong><em>Before Tonight Is Over<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Peter Solan, 1965). Under the Milan Lasica Award section, which honors actor Ivan Mistr\u00edk, two early-career Slovak comedies will be screened: <strong><em>Luck Will Come on Sunday <\/em><\/strong>(dir. J\u00e1n Lacko, 1958) and <em><strong>The Archimedean Principle<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Andrej Lettrich, 1964).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the International Competition of Feature Films, Slovakia will be represented by <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/perla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Perla<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a feature film directed by Alexandra Makarov\u00e1. This Austrian-Slovak co-production had its world premiere in the prestigious Tiger Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the International Competition of Short Films, four Slovak films will vie for the Blue Angel for the best short film among 36 contenders. Three of them were produced by the Academy of Performing Arts: <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/venus-in-retrograde\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Venus in Retrograde<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. \u0160tef\u00e1nia Lovasov\u00e1), <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/hot-flush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hot Flush<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Hana Han\u010dinov\u00e1), and <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/confession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Confession <\/a><\/em><\/strong>(dir. Rebeka Bizubov\u00e1), which won the national Sun in a Net Award for Best Short Fiction or Documentary Film. Rounding out the selection is the Czech-Slovak-Ukrainian co-production <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/i-died-in-irpin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I Died in Irpin<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Anastasiia Falileieva), which received the Award for Best Animation at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the third competitive section, International Competition of Central and Eastern European Films, two of the eight selected films are Slovak documentaries. The world premiere of the Slovak-Czech-French docudrama <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/operation-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><strong>OPERATION MONACO<\/strong><\/em> <\/a>(dir. Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk) will be held at the festival, alongside <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/chronicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Chronicle<\/em> <\/a><\/strong>(dir. Martin Koll\u00e1r), a Slovak-Czech essayistic documentary that had its world premiere at the renowned Swiss festival Visions du R\u00e9el.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the non-competitive section Slovak Season, which showcases domestic productions in Slovak premieres, five films will be featured. From the documentary selection, Ko\u0161ice will host the screening of the mid-length film <strong><em>Varso<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Kristi\u00e1n Grupa\u010d), capturing the life and work of the quirky musician Peter Varsav\u00edk and <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/im-not-a-bad-man\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I\u2019m Not a Bad <\/a><\/strong><\/em><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/im-not-a-bad-man\/\">Man<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>(dir. Nadya Todorova), which follows the confrontation between a former Warsaw Pact soldier returning to Prague 55 years after the 1968 invasion and a man who protested against it. The fiction lineup includes two comedies: a loose adaptation of Timrava\u2019s novella <a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/sluggard-clan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><strong>Sluggard Clan<\/strong><\/em> <\/a>(dir. Rastislav Boro\u0161) and the satirical mockumentary <strong><em>SCHEEP TOO<\/em><\/strong> (dir. Peter Pavl\u00edk). The section closes with the biopic <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/shadow-of-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shadow of Victory<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. B\u00e5rd Breien), chronicling the life of Norwegian light heavyweight boxing champion Magne Havnaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Slovak Season Special subsection, two films will be presented that, although not produced by Slovak companies, were made on Slovak territory: the German-produced biopic <strong><em>Goebbels<\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Joachim A. Lang) and the documentary <em><strong>Joe the First<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Marek Va\u0148ous, Branko Cap, Radoslav \u0160tefanov).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<em> <\/em>Movies for Kids<em> <\/em>section, tailored for the festival\u2019s youngest visitors, will feature the Czech-Slovak co-production <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/sugar-candy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sugar Candy<\/a><\/em><\/strong> (dir. Pavel Jandourek), which recently had its world premiere at the Zl\u00edn Film Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Golden Camera award, which honors film professionals, will this year be presented to one of Slovakia\u2019s most prominent and active cinematographers \u2014 Martin \u0160trba. To mark the occasion, two films from different stages of his career will be screened: <em><strong>The Garden<\/strong><\/em> (1995, dir. Martin \u0160ul\u00edk) from his early period and <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-hungarian-dressmaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Hungarian Dressmaker<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>(dir. Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1, 2024), one of his latest works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s Actor\u2019s Mission<em> <\/em>award will go to Daniela Kol\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1 and Milan Ondr\u00edk. The talent of Slovak actor Milan Ondr\u00edk will be showcased at the festival through the screening of <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/let-there-be-light\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Let There Be Light<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir.
