{"id":54370,"date":"2025-09-09T10:45:57","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T08:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/novinky\/jubilejny-cinematik-s-mnozstvom-slovenskych-filmov\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T11:37:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T10:37:48","slug":"cinematik-2025","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/cinematik-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"20th Cinematik with many Slovak films"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinematik.sk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Film Festival Cinematik Pie\u0161\u0165any<\/a> will screen the classic film <em>Custom-Tailored Death<\/em> by Martin Holl\u00fd, Jr., as well as multiple new Slovak films at its 20th anniversary edition (September 10 \u2013 15).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Custom-Tailored Death<\/strong><\/em> focuses on the consequences of the Great Depression in the interwar period through the story of two people from different social classes. This feature film follows the tragic story of the owner of a renowned tailor\u2019s shop and a contract killer \u2013 whom he hires himself to save his family from bankruptcy through his own death. The 1979 film from the collection of the Slovak Film Institute will be presented in the Cinematik Classics section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cinematik.doc, one of the two festival competitions, is dedicated to feature-length Slovak documentaries. This year it will showcase seven films. After winning the Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary IFF, Miro Remo\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/better-go-mad-in-the-wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Better Go Mad in the Wild<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, which follows the life of twins Franta and Ondra in the \u0160umava wilderness, will celebrate its Slovak premiere. The first screening in Slovakia also awaits Paula \u010eurinov\u00e1&#8217;s film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/action-item\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Action Item<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, a documentary essay about burnout, anxiety, and collective sharing, which has been presented at the Karlovy Vary IFF, FIDMarseille, or Dokufest in Prizren, where it also won the main prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audience in Pie\u0161\u0165any will also have a chance to see the \u201ccollective portrait of contemporary reality\u201d in Martin Kollar\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/chronicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Chronicle<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, which began its festival life at Visions du r\u00e9el in Nyon; Zuzana Piussi\u2019s critical documentary <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/voice-of-the-forest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Voice of the Forest<\/strong><\/a><\/em> about our relationship to the forest and the timber industry; Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk\u2019s latest film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/operation-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>OPERATION MONACO<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, which revisits the eponymous State Security operation at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s; Daniel Dluh\u00fd\u2019s feature debut <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/alenka-and-the-miracle-from-a-foreign-land\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alenka and the Miracle from a Foreign Land<\/a><\/strong><\/em> following the story of a young Romani woman on her journey from an orphanage to a successful life; and Pavol Barab\u00e1\u0161&#8217; new film <em><strong>Everyone Needs Their Tribe<\/strong><\/em>, set in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five more Slovak premieres can be found in the In the House section. Less than two weeks after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/father\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Father<\/strong><\/a><\/em> is the opening film of Cinematik. The drama by director Tereza Nvotov\u00e1 follows a man whose life falls apart after a single tragic mistake. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/caravan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Caravan<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Zuzana Kirchnerov\u00e1, the story of mother Ester and her mentally disabled son David searching for freedom, love, and happiness, had its world premiere at the Festival de Cannes. Katar\u00edna Gramatov\u00e1\u2019s feature debut <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/promise-i-ll-be-fine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Promise, I\u2019ll Be Fine<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, screened at festivals in Tokyo and Karlovy Vary, offers a realistic look at the lives of a group of teenagers in a poor village. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/summer-school-2001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Summer School, 2001<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Du\u017ean Duong, which also premiered in Karlovy Vary, brings a fresh perspective at the lives of the first generation of the Vietnamese community growing up in the Czech Republic. Robin Kvapil\u2019s documentary road movie <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/change-my-mind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Change My Mind<\/a><\/strong><\/em> reflects on conspiracies related to the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The In the House section traditionally includes programmes of student films from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (V\u0160MU) and the Academy of Arts (AKU) in Bansk\u00e1 Bystrica. Among them is the documentary <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/confession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Confession<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by director Rebeka Bizubov\u00e1, who will receive a Student Oscar for it in October. The V\u0160MU programme also includes: <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/nights-and-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nights and Days<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Daniela Sl\u00e1vikov\u00e1), <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/far-between-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Far Between Us<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Vojt\u011bch Jav\u016frek), <em><strong>Boiling Shapes<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Samuel \u0160krab\u00e1lek), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/hot-flush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Hot Flush<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (dir. Hana Han\u010dinov\u00e1), <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/till-tomorrow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Till Tomorrow<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Hannah Dale), and <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/feast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Feast<\/a><\/strong><\/em> (dir. Rebeka Vakr\u010dkov\u00e1). The AKU will be represented by: <em><strong>Victoria<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Stella \u0160uransk\u00e1), <em><strong>Thirty Days<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Mahdalyna Buriadnyk), <em><strong>Grain of Life<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Veronika Holl\u00e1), and <em><strong>Chairwoman<\/strong><\/em> (dir. Simona L\u00e1niov\u00e1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The young audience section, Cinematik Jr., will show <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/tales-from-the-magic-garden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Tales from the Magic Garden<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, directed by David S\u00fakup, Patrik Pa\u0161\u0161, Leon Vidmar, and Jean-Claude Rozec.
