The 29th edition of the Jihlava festival takes place from October 24 to November 2, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barbora Chalupov\u00e1\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/virtual-girlfriends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Virtual Girlfriends<\/strong><\/a><\/em> will be screened at the festival\u2019s opening gala in world premiere. The Czech-Slovak-Bulgarian documentary follows three women who seek wealth, freedom, and quick fame on the OnlyFans platform. Chalupov\u00e1 follows up on her well-known film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/caught-in-the-net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Caught in the Net<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (co-directed by V\u00edt Klus\u00e1k) and once again explores digital worlds and their impact, especially on young women. The film\u2019s Slovak co-producers are Monika Lo\u0161\u0165\u00e1kov\u00e1, Simona Hru\u0161ovsk\u00e1, and Veronika Z\u00fabek Kocourkov\u00e1 from Super film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/virtual-girlfriends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Virtual Girlfriends<\/strong><\/a><\/em> is competing for awards in the main competition section Opus Bonum \u2013 similar to Diana Fabi\u00e1nov\u00e1\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Open<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (pictured), shown in international premiere. The film is a deep, personal probe into partner relationships, which addresses, among others, the topics of infidelity and monogamy. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Open<\/strong><\/a><\/em> was produced by Silvia Pan\u00e1kov\u00e1 from Dayhey. Diana Fabi\u00e1nov\u00e1&#8217;s previous film, <em><strong>The Moon Inside You<\/strong><\/em>, which dealt with menstruation in a broader socio-historical context, was a great international success, having been screened at many festivals, including Locarno and IDFA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Czech Joy competition section will feature the Czech-Slovak essay <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/amoosed-a-moose-odyssey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>AMOOSED: a moose odyssey<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Hana Nov\u00e1kov\u00e1 about the relationship between human and moose. The Slovak co-producer of the film is Peter Kerekes. The section also includes <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/bardo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bardo<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1, which visualizes the experience of being in darkness; the critical documentary <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/voice-of-the-forest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Voice of the Forest<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Zuzana Piussi, which explores our relationship to the forest and the timber industry; the collective portrait of contemporary reality <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/chronicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Chronicle<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Martin Kollar; and the documentary road movie <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/change-my-mind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Change My Mind<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by Robin Kvapil, which reflects on conspiracies related to the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two short films will also be presented in their world premieres. The documentary poem <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/seablindness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Seablindness<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, directed by Tereza Smetananov\u00e1 and produced by Tereza Tok\u00e1rov\u00e1, which follows the lives of people and animals near ports, is included in the Short Joy competition. The Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and CinePunkt co-production, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/seablindness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Seablindness<\/strong><\/a><\/em> has a shared world premiere in Jihlava and at Doclisboa. The experimental film in the Fascinations competition, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/branching-light-and-flickers-of-a-dawn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Branching Light and Flickers of a Dawn<\/strong><\/a><\/em> by visual artist Paula Malinowska, explores the mysterious synchronized flashing of fireflies, blending scientific research with artistic interpretation through ecofiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two films will be featured in the non-competitive Czech Television Documentaries: Ond\u0159ej Vavre\u010dka\u2019s experimental essay <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/111\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>1+1+1<\/strong><\/a><\/em> and Miro Remo\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/better-go-mad-in-the-wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Better Go Mad in the Wild<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, the KVIFF-winning look at twins living alone in the \u0160umava forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three upcoming projects will be presented to the professional audience: <em><strong>Thieves of Ashes<\/strong><\/em> by Lum\u00edr Ko\u0161a\u0159 and David Tich\u00e1\u010dek as part of the Ji.hlava New Visions Forum, and <em><strong>Sheepfold<\/strong><\/em> by Nora \u0160trbov\u00e1 and <em><strong>Who Cares<\/strong><\/em> by Ina Ivanceanu as part of the Ji.hlava New Visions Market. This year, the Slovak representative in the Emerging Producers training and networking program is Tom\u00e1\u0161 Gi\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 28, before the screening of the film <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/bardo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bardo<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, the book launch of Jana Dudkov\u00e1\u2019s book <em>\u010clovek na okrAI. Postantropoc\u00e9n Viery \u010c\u00e1kanyovej<\/em>, published by the Slovak Film Institute in cooperation with the Institute of Theatre and Film Studies of the Center for Art Sciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, will take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slovak professionals are also represented on the juries that will evaluate the competition films.
