{"id":55609,"date":"2025-11-06T10:44:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T09:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/?post_type=novinka&#038;p=55609"},"modified":"2025-11-07T16:15:41","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T15:15:41","slug":"flood-mar-del-plata","status":"publish","type":"novinka","link":"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/news\/flood-mar-del-plata\/","title":{"rendered":"The Film Flood will have its world premiere at the Mar del Plata IFF 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Slovak feature film <em>Flood<\/em> will have its world premiere at the 40th edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/mardelplatafilmfest.com\/40\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mar del Plata International Film Festival<\/a> (November 6 \u2013 16, 2025), the only Latin American festival classified in the so-called Category A.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director Martin Gonda\u2019s\u00a0feature debut was produced in a parity production between Slovakia (SK prod.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.silverartfilm.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Silverart<\/a>) and Czechia, in co-production with Poland and Belgium. The film will premiere in the International Feature Film Competition, which will also include the Slovak co-production\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/ungrateful-beings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><strong>Ungrateful Beings<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0(SK co-prod. Punkchart films), presented earlier this year at the San Sebasti\u00e1n IFF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/flood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flood<\/a><\/em> <\/strong>is set in the former Czechoslovakia during the period of normalization. In 1981, the socialist regime began construction of the largest surface water reservoir in Central Europe, intended to ensure the water supply for the eastern part of the country. The construction of the Starina reservoir was completed six years later, resulting in the displacement and flooding of seven predominantly Ruthenian villages: Starina, Zvala, Smoln\u00edk, Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Po\u013eana, Rusk\u00e9, Dara, and Ostro\u017enica. Against the backdrop of these real events, the film develops a dramatic story of a Ruthenian family, focusing on the conflict between a farmer and widower Alexander and his daughter Mara, whose lives are directly affected by this industrial transformation of the Slovak landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martin Gonda, a graduate of the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, draws on his personal knowledge of eastern Slovakia, which he had already utilized in his short student film&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/pura-vida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em><strong>Pura Vida<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. During filming, he worked with actors from the Alexander Duchnovi\u010d Theatre alongside non-professional child actors \u2013 an approach he once again employs in his feature debut.
