The Slovak Film Institute (SFI) will also present eight classic animated films from its collections at Fest An\u010da.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Slovak Competition of Shorts will introduce six selected titles, five of which are Slovak productions. Competing are the experimental film <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/bardo\/\" id=\"44610\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bardo<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1 (prod. gu\u010da films, world premiere at FIDMarseille), the children&#8217;s adventure <em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/eeny-meeny-miny-moe\/\" id=\"55626\"><strong>Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe!<\/strong><\/a><\/em> directed by Andrea Szelesov\u00e1 (SK co-prod. ansze, world premiere at the Berlinale), and the relationship drama <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/tourists\/\" id=\"38992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tourists<\/a><\/strong><\/em> directed by M\u00e1ria Kralovi\u010d (prod. NOVINSKI, world premiere at Clermont-Ferrand). The selection is completed by three student films: <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-sign-of-power\/\" id=\"56966\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Sign of Power<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by \u0160arlota Ema Hor\u00e1\u010dkov\u00e1 and <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/bubble\/\" id=\"56427\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bubble<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Wanda Przeworska, both produced at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and <em><strong>Quantum Leap<\/strong><\/em> by \u0160imon M\u00e9sz\u00e1ros, a Slovak-born student at Prague&#8217;s FAMU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The non-competitive section Slovak Short Films will present ten works. Slovak productions include the children&#8217;s films <em><strong>What Do We Do with the Dough Though?<\/strong><\/em> by Ol\u00edvia J\u00e1no\u0161\u00edkov\u00e1, <em><strong>Golem<\/strong><\/em>, directed collectively by Baruh Kapustin, Karina Shaposhnikova, Veronika Shaposhnikova, Asia Tkachova, Nika Tkachova, Danyil Tkachov, Viktoryia Ustsimenka, Masha Luschikova, Ester Strashun, and David Strashun, and <em><strong>Pests<\/strong><\/em> by Michal Sulan. They are joined by the experimental films <em><strong>Lower Resolution \u2013 Head (feat. Lena Lies)<\/strong><\/em> by Marian Vred\u00edk, <em><strong>Virtual Magical Rock as a Native Soil<\/strong><\/em> by Luk\u00e1\u0161 Sobota, the collaboratively created <em><strong>Transformations<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Marina Martynova, Pavel Martynov, Matej Juhas, Makar Kreminsky, Vadim Kim, Toma Sebova, Yaryna Dmytrenko, Ekaterina Brokhina, Varvara Isakova, Nadja Buryan, Masha Luschikova, together with participants of Dobr\u00fd trh, and the philosophical V\u0160MU film <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-gatekeepers\/\" id=\"56448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Gatekeepers<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Katar\u00edna Jel\u00ednkov\u00e1. Slovak-born filmmakers are also represented by two Czech productions \u2013&nbsp;<strong><em>Meal<\/em><\/strong> by Laura Matu\u0161\u00e1kov\u00e1 and the children&#8217;s film <em><strong>Treasure Trouble<\/strong><\/em> by \u013dubica Mak\u00f3ov\u00e1 \u2013 as well as the Italian-Czech experimental film <em><strong>Replica<\/strong><\/em> by Franco Milec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Feature Films section will present the puppet feature-length film <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/dukla\/\" id=\"55827\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dukla<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Gejza Dezorz (prod. Slovak Motion Picture). The film recently competed at Animafest Zagreb and was also released theatrically in Slovakia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fest An\u010da Specialties section will screen three Slovak films: <em><strong>Dream Rotation<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Katar\u00edna Jel\u00ednkov\u00e1, Darya Sidorova, Vikt\u00f3ria Zimmermannov\u00e1, and Rebeka Vakr\u010dkov\u00e1, <em><strong>Boiling Shapes<\/strong><\/em> by Samuel \u0160krab\u00e1lek, and the award-winning <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/i-died-in-irpin\/\" id=\"39783\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I Died in Irpin<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Anastasiia Falileieva. The section also includes <em><strong>Overture<\/strong><\/em> by Slovak-born director Jakub Hronsk\u00fd, produced at Prague&#8217;s UMPRUM, which won last year&#8217;s Slovak competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Short Animated Documentary programme includes <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/branching-light-and-flickers-of-a-dawn\/\" id=\"55327\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Branching Light and Flickers of a Dawn<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by digital artist Paula Malinowska (world premiere at MFDF Ji.hlava). Festival director Ivana Sujov\u00e1 has selected <em><strong>Sh_t Happens<\/strong><\/em> by directing duo Michaela Mih\u00e1lyi and David \u0160tumpf for her programme Ivana Sujov\u00e1: My Ten Years with An\u010da. The Curator&#8217;s Pick will also include the Czech short <em><strong>Bodies of Water<\/strong><\/em> by Slovak-born director Niko Mlynar\u010d\u00edk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Films intended primarily for young audiences are presented in the Children Programme. The section includes the V\u0160MU student film <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/journey-of-the-stars\/\" id=\"56439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Journey of the Stars<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Klaudia Grancov\u00e1, the episode <em>Pony<\/em>, directed by Veronika Z\u00fabek Kocourkov\u00e1, from the educational series <em>Aha svet<\/em>, and seven episodes of the television series <em><strong>The Forest Five<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Ivana \u0160ebestov\u00e1 (<em>Treasure<\/em>, <em>Sir Emil<\/em> and <em>The Oak&#8217;s Children<\/em>), Ivana Lau\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 (<em>The Secret Keeper<\/em>, <em>I Can Throw the Farthest<\/em>), Andrej Gregor\u010dok (<em>Gemstones<\/em>), and Timotej Lukovi\u010d (<em>Long Ago<\/em>). The section concludes with the animated feature <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/the-websters-spider-adventures\/\" id=\"55377\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Websters: Spider Adventure<\/em>s<\/a><\/strong>, directed and produced by Katar\u00edna Kerekesov\u00e1 (Fool Moon), which combines the final six episodes of the eponymous television series into a feature-length film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the SFI continues its tradition of launching new DVD and Blu-ray editions in cooperation with Fest An\u010da. In 2019, the festival introduced the DVD <em>Pictures \u2013 Folksongs<\/em>, a four-part puppet series by Helena Slav\u00edkov\u00e1-Rabarov\u00e1 inspired by the four seasons and Slovak folklore. Three years later, at the festival&#8217;s 15th edition, the DVD <em>Jaroslava Havettov\u00e1. Selected Works<\/em>, dedicated to the pioneering lady of Slovak animated film, was officially launched. This year, the SFI will present the Blu-ray edition <em>Vladim\u00edr Pikal\u00edk. Selected Works<\/em>, which contains ten short animated films. In parallel, the festival will screen seven of Pikal\u00edk&#8217;s films in the programme section bearing his name, celebrating one of the key figures of Slovak puppet animation. The selection of classic films from the SFI archives is completed by Rudolf Urc&#8217;s short film <em><strong>First Class<\/strong><\/em>, presented in tribute to the influential dramaturge and publicist whose work shaped several generations of Slovak animators. The film will be screened as part of the festival&#8217;s opening ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accompanying programme includes a case study by Marek Jasa\u0148, Not a Director, Still Essential (Careers in Animation), in which he will focus on his role as a lead animator. Within the Slovak Industry Days programme, Viera \u010c\u00e1kanyov\u00e1 will present a short case study of her film <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sfu.sk\/en\/films\/bardo\/\" id=\"44613\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bardo<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, and contemporary animated projects in development or in various stages of production will also be showcased, created by local filmmakers, animation studios, and students from universities and secondary schools focused on animation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More information can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.festanca.sk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fest An\u010da website.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The programme of the 19th International Animation Festival Fest An\u010da, taking place from 30 June to 5 July 2026, includes nearly thirty contemporary Slovak animated films.
