The 4 \u017eivly Summer Film Festival<\/a> will be held in Bansk\u00e1 \u0160tiavnica for the 28th time on August 6-9, 2026 with the main theme being Generations. Despite the shortened programme, the audience can look forward to many Slovak films.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Film historian Eva Filov\u00e1 has once again curated the traditional programme of short films from the collections of the Slovak Film Institute. The programme titled Generational Troubles takes a closer look at the lives of different generations from the 1960s to the 1980s. The 1963 film Graduates<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Jaroslav Pogran portrays the preparations for and the excitement surrounding students\u2019 graduation exams. Pavol S\u00fdkora captured the lives of three orphans and a grandfather in the 1966 film Vlado Marienka Jojo Grandfather<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. Du\u0161an Tran\u010d\u00edk’s 1968 film Photographing the House Dwellers<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is a look at the joyful and tragic events in one multi-generational family. Fero Feni\u010d’s 1978 film Diad\u00e9m<\/a><\/strong><\/em> tells the story of the problems of young people in an amateur music group. The last film in the programme is the 1980 health education film A Problem of Age<\/strong><\/a><\/em> directed by Kazim\u00edr Barl\u00edk about the principles of proper nutrition for older people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two contemporary Slovak short films can be seen as part of The Voice of the Young Generation \u2013 Award-Winning Films of the FilmEU Film Festival 2026 programme. It will present the successful documentary about public space How to Listen to Fountains<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by Eva Sajanov\u00e1, which was awarded in San Sebasti\u00e1n and at many other festivals, and the fiction Hot Flush<\/a><\/em><\/strong> by Hana Han\u010dinov\u00e1, which thematizes explores a woman’s transition into menopause, representing a new stage in her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival programme also includes two feature films. Extraordinary<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is an adventure family film by Marina Andree \u0160kop and Vanda Ra\u00fdmanov\u00e1, which premiered at this year’s BUFF festival in Malm\u00f6, Sweden. It is a heartwarming story about otherness , friendship, and the power of cooperation which reminds us that every generation has something to learn from another. Marek Kubo\u0161\u2019 documentary film \u00b1 90<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is a portrait of the influential generation of Slovak documentary filmmakers, the so-called Generation 90, whose leading figures include Kubo\u0161 himself, Peter Kerekes, Marko \u0160kop, Jaro Vojtek, Zuzana Piussi, Juraj Lehotsk\u00fd, and Robert Kirchhoff<\/p>\n\n\n\n
