Synopsis

Written by many of the most estabilshed authors from the region and some upcoming film scholars with first-hand knowledge of the local culture and language, this collections demonstrates how Eastern European cinema has developed since the fall of the Berlin Wall, yet also how some of its characteristics survived the transition, despite the momentous political and economic changes of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It discusses Eastern European Cinema as an institution, industry and text, looking at fiction and documentary films, popular  and arthouse movies, those made specifically for cinema audiences and those made for television.
