  • Pink Dreams
    Pink Dreams ( )
    d. Dušan Hanák, Czechoslovakia, 1976, colour, 80 min.

An amiable picture about entering adulthood, great dreams, and the first - forbidden - love of a white postman, Jakub, and a pretty Gypsy girl, Jolanka. This is a poetic story, a mosaic of the playful world springing from the wild imagination of the village postman and its clash with the pragmatic mundane reality that finally beats the rosy dreams of the young protagonists. • Red Wine I-II
    Red Wine I-II ( )
    d. Andrej Lettrich, Czechoslovakia, 1976, colour, 144 min.

An epic saga of the Habdža family of vineyard keepers set in western Slovakian countryside at the beginning of the 20th century. Director Andrej Lettrich´s novel adaptation talks of plotting, forbidden love, family discord, and struggle for heritage and power. The story is engaging thanks to the impressive performances of popular actors, dramatic situations, and sensitive music. Red Wine is not so much inventive in terms of auteurship as it is a work of excellent craftsmanship. The resulting picture is a costume production neatly adapted to the character of Slovak rural life in the past.

  • Pacho, the Brigand of Hybe
Pacho, the Brigand of Hybe ( )
    d. Martin Ťapák, Czechoslovakia, 1975, colour, 85 min.

Martin Ťapák´s Pacho, the Brigand of Hybe was based on the story written by Peter Jaroš as a humorous resemblance of the Slovak legendary hero Juro Jánošík spiced up with numerous cliches of official Slovak folklore. The resulting picture is one of the very few, if not the only truly well-done Slovak film parody. Jozef kroner´s unforgettable performance in the lead role, supported by the witty dialogues written by classic Slovak comedians Milan Lasica and Július Satinský made the film into a unique phenomenon of Slovak cinematographic tradition.
