  • The Sun in a Net
    The Sun in a Net ( )
    d. Štefan Uher, Czechoslovakia, 1962, B&W, 90 min.

The Sun in a Net is a lyrical story about the emotions arising among two young people who pretend cynicism and rejection towards society in an attempt to hide their insecurities, lack of experience and fear of adult life. It is the very first Slovak film in the history of Slovak cinema to take on the theme of the natural differences of values and social life in urban and rural settings. The film is considered the beginning of the New Wave in Slovak and Czech cinema of the 1960s.

  • The Song of the Grey Pigeon
The Song of the Grey Pigeon ( )
    r. Stanislav Barabáš, Czechoslovakia, 1961, B&W, 99 min.

The story of the feature debut of director Stanislav Barabáš is set in the Slovak mountains during the times of the Slovak National Uprising in WW II. Its child characters give an impressive picture of the evil and the meaninglessness of war. The innocence of childhood meets the destructive forces of war, which leave their cruel mark on children´s dreams, desires, and careless games. This film replaces heroic acts from the battlefields with life further away from the frontlines.
