  • Wild Lilies
    Wild Lilies ( )
    d. Elo Havetta, Czechoslovakia, 1972, B&W + colour, 77 min.

The second, and unfortunately, the last feature film made by a unique talent among Slovak filmmakers, Elo Havetta, is one of the most original pictures of Slovak cinematography. The film was conceived as a paraphrase of Vincent Šikula´s prose, the tragicomic episodes of which screenwriter Lubor Dohnal and Havetta composed into a dramatic story. The main characters are veterans coming home from the First World War. And while they feel a need to find a home and settle down, they are also driven by a passion for a vagrant´s free life.

  • If I Had a Gun
    If I Had a Gun ( )

This is a tragicomic story about boys who even in times of war remember how to play soldiers, dream of heroic deeds, spy on girls, show off in front of friends, and make up fantastic adventures. With the same naive childishness they face grim events of war and everyday village life. Despite the impact of early normalization introduced by the regime, director Štefan Uher succeeded in turning Milan Ferko and Elo Havetta´s screenplay into a vivid picture on a theme so often romanticized and distorted by ideology.

  • Eagle Feather
    Eagle Feather ( )
    d. Martin Hollý, Czechoslovakia, 1971, colour, 86 min.

A sequel to the Copper Tower, Eagle Feather continued the success of its predecessor in many ways. Two inseparable friends, Oldie and Valer, return from prison to the Stratená Valley to start a new life - that of respectable citizens. This decision puts them face to face with new challenges. Manual work does not provide quite as much thrill as smuggling goods over the border did in good old times. With much distrust they are watched by the local customs officer who is convinced that they will take up their illegal hobby sooner or later again. As it turns out, he was not far from the truth.

  • Copper Tower
    Copper Tower ( )
    d. Martin Hollý, Czechoslovakia, 1970, colour, 82 min.

Director Martin Hollý´s film from the Stratená Valley is a story of adventure and romance set against the background of the magnificent peaks of the High Tatras. The tragic story, here and there lightened up by the funny comments of tough men, attracted an audience of nearly half a million in the early seventies and remains a favorite  of Slovak movie lovers up to this day. The filmmakers brought together excellent acting, a memorable story of love and friendship, thrilling action, and humorous dialogues into a dynamic picture unique in the context of Slovak cinematography.

  • Our Daily Day...
    Our Daily Day… ( )
    r. Otakar Krivánek, Československo, 1969, čb., 92 min.

This is a reconstruction of a daily life of an ordinary family. With kindness and gentle humour, the film reveals the relationship between the older and the younger generation. The original concept of a short film study with authentic characters of the Ravinger family grew into a feature-length picture on the border between a documentary and fiction film. It was made as an improvisation, without a previously approved screenplay, in the course of only twenty days.
