More than 20 Slovak films at 34th edition of Finále Plzeň film festival
The 34th edition of Finále Plzeň film festival (September 24 – 29, 2021) will feature 10 Slovak film in competitions and another 12 in non-competitive sections.

The 16th edition of the Cinematik International Film Festival (14-19 September 2021) will focus on Hungarian cinematography, with a rich representation of domestic productions in the programme. The Cinematik.doc competition section will feature the latest Slovak documentaries, the In the House section will present a selection of features and shorts, and classic films will commemorate an important anniversary of Slovak cinema.
The Venice International Film Festival (1. – 11. September 2021) will present the world premiere of Peter Kerekes’s fiction film debut. 107 Mothers will compete with 18 other titles in the Orizzonti section, dedicated to films that represent the lastest aesthetic and expressive trends in the international cinema.
From 20 to 28 August, the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (IFF) programme will offer several Slovak co-production films. Four of them are shown in the main competition. For the first time, the competition sections of the festival will also open to documentaries. Twelve works will compete for the Crystal Globe.
A biographical film about one of the greatest sporting heroes of the former Czechoslovakia was supposed to reach audiences last year. However, the premiere was postponed. The creators intended for the film to be screened in summer, in the cinema and during the Olympics. Nevertheless, the Olympics were put off too. The same applies for the Karlovy Vary festival, this year, as an exception, it takes place at the end of August. Shortly after the end of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, it is to open with the world premiere of Zátopek by director David Ondříček.
Long-awaited new releases, short films by emerging and experienced directors or upcoming feature-length debuts. The 47th edition of the Summer Film School Uherské Hradiště, which will take place from 6 to 12 August 2021, will present a wide range of Slovak cinema.
This year, twenty promising film producers from different European countries have been brought together by the Producers on the Move initiative once again. They completed the challenging programme from 17 to 21 May online. In the prestigious selection, Slovakia was represented by Katarína Tomková, who produced successful films such as Hotel Sunrise (Hotel Úsvit, dir. Mária Rumanová, 2016) or Servants (Služobníci, dir. Ivan Ostrochovský, 2020).
Zuzana Kirchnerová is returning to Cannes after being selected for the L’Atelier programme to present her upcoming film Caravan (Karavan).
Thanks to the nomination by Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), upcoming fiction film Saving One Who Was Dead will be presented at the 9th edition of Goes to Cannes.
