The jubilee 25th International Film Festival in Kolkata (November 8 – 15, 2019) will present five feature films by Dušan Hanák who will also be the chairman of the International Competition jury.
The 57th edition of Viennale International Film Festival (October 24 – November 6, 2019) will introduce two Slovak classics Captain Dabač by Paľo Bielik and The Bells Toll for the Barefooted by Stanislav Barabáš within Retrospective program. The two-month retrospective will start during the Viennale and will continue until December 4, 2019.
The collection of Slovak documentary films from the 1960s celebrates success internationally. The selection of documentaries from the golden era of Slovak cinematography has already been presented at several foreign events, and in October it will be presented at the 62nd International Documentary and Animated Film Festival DOK Leipzig (October 28 – November 3, 2019).
Numerous world and international premieres of the Slovak documentaries will take place within the 23rd Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (October 24 – 29, 2019). The festival will also present a selection of eight digitally restored Slovak documentary shorts made in 1960s and 1970s.
Digitally restored film Wild Lilies (1972) by Elo Havetta will world premiere at the of one of the largest and most respected international festivals of the classic film Lumière Festival in Lyon (October 12 – 20, 2019). This is the third digitally restored film from the collections of the National Film Archive of the SFI that festival has selected for its program in the past three years.
On April 30, 2019 the internationally renowned Kino Tuškanac in Zagreb will screen Pictures of the Old World by Dušan Hanák and a program of Slovak experimental documentary shorts made in 1960s and 1970s.
Sixth edition of Czech & Slovak Film Festival that takes place on March 27 – 31, 2019 in Sydney, Australia will showcase six Slovak feature films and five shorts.
Digitally restored films from the National Film Archive collection of Slovak Film Institute (SFI) are heading to prestigious film festivals. Retrospective of Viktor Kubal will present in Spanish premiere the works of Slovak director, animator and artist at 51st Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (October 4 – 14, 2018) while The Case of Barnabáš Kos by Peter Solan will be screened in world premiere at Lumière Festival (October 13 – 21, 2018) in Lyon.
Second Run, a UK-based DVD company specializing in the release of important and award-winning films from all around the world, will release Slovak film The Miraculous Virgin (d. Štefan Uher, 1966). The film adaptation of Dominik Tatarka’s novel was already released by French company Malavida.
